You mean PGI does not want to offend the eSports/CoD doods.

BIG difference!

Yeah, it would be cool if this game were more complicated, but it isn't a simulator, it's a game :(

As for "no auto-shutdown," that could be fun. I may have gotten too used to it, since often I'll put myself in a situation that allows me to get off a free alpha strike right before moving into cover while auto-shutting down.

I watched a player once override the shutdown, aim his lasers, make a kill, then manually shut down. I've tried that, but suck at it.

Maybe if lasers stopped firing as soon as your mech shuts down. THEN I would have a reason to join the perma-shutdown-overide club.

Up your game peeps. Anyone I see on twitch without shutdown overided plastered on their screen is a newb. To many newbs thinking they're pros thats why we cant have good things.

Think of it as getting rid of the auto shutdown crutch. Rules are: No auto shutdown. However manual shutdown is allowed.

yes this isn't a simulation it is a game, but that's to be expected from a massive multiplayer game - you may have noticed that world of warplanes is NOT flight simulator either

if you want the real ww2 sim you get combatflightsimulator3 or iL:sturmovich

i usually keep it overriden until i run out of cool shots. or if i really dont care if i die, like if my chassis is spent anyway or there is no hope in winning. sometimes i will turn it on while finishing off an opponent, as soon as said opponent dies i force shutdown and hope i dont explode.

I play IL2 Cliffs of Dover. The Spitfire vs 109 might be the best match-up in the history of air combat. And the flight models are competitive with DCS. If you have CloD, PM me and we can play on ATAG sometime!

Mechwarrior is a game, and I think that PGI has done a great job making a game. Most of the flak they get is from people trying to turn it into a simulator, which it never can be; or into TT, which would be impossible. I like what I've got, but sometimes I wonder what a full blown Mech Simulator would be like.

how is this risky? just do heat management yourself. If near a end of round and I'm out numbered or we our number them I will turn override on and LET THE SMACK FALL DOWN LIKE MY HAND SLAPPING MY GIRLFRIENDS ASS! If i die no big deal we won or lose and I go down guns a blazing!
So... Rarely right?

I played most of the tournament, in the I need a hero event, riding around with Override engaged.

I only managed to cook myself 3 times, in 42 matches.
Then again the Fang did make it easy.

No one is trying to turn it into a full blown simulator, but all of the features mentioned have already been in PREVIOUS Mechwarrior games. Mechwarrior's have always been simulator-lite but never so complicated that anyone with a normal human attention span couldn't figure it out rather quickly. There are plenty of other features those games had that would serve to add depth to this game while not making it harder to figure out, like Pilots with unique skills/attributes or the Solaris Championship. Hell, World of Tanks, not exactly a complex game, even uses Rearm and Repair, another staple of Mechwarrior Mercenaries also now absent from this game(and will probably never come back, unless they buff CBill rewards which they should do).

My pet peeves on this game.

1. Collisions (and the warping that occurs if anyone bumps anyone).

2. The complete lack of heat effects in this game. I'm sorry but there is NO excuse for this not to be modeled in MWO. We had MW titles over a DECADE ago on far inferior computers that had these effects.

At 97% you should already be taking damage and cooking off ammo if this game had any resonable heat system....

No one is trying to turn MWO into simulator. PGI themselves said that MWO is a tactical BattleMech simulation. It is here. Also it probably is the first damn thing anyone would read about MWO.

I think it is more like people are trying to turn MWO into another brainless shooter. It reminds me of situation where WarThunder RB players are trying to turn it into SB instead of trying SB. Problem we have here is that we don't have more than one difficulty mode, we can't even get people to have a try.

Go for the real flight sim and get Digital Combat Simulator. After playing that, I can see how it would be problematic for the people who complain about 10 minute queue times. It takes 5 minutes just to pre-flight and startup the A-10, if you skip the non-essential steps. Then you take off and get shot down in 2 minutes. Obviously that won't be many people's cup of tea.

Despite that, I do wish we had a bit more sim in what is right now a pure arcade shooter. It's still fun, and I like it, but I wish we had a few more things to juggle during the fight. Point and click adventure is a jest, but rings true when I consider the normal progression of the battles. The most fun part for me is running around positioning, and then once the shooting starts, it's just point, click, point, click, without much thinking.

I might join the perma override club - see how much I like it. It will probably improve my Locust games, because accidental shutdown in a fight is guaranteed death, whereas overheating is only probable death.
