Seriously, this is how overridden heat damage is applied to the Locust:

At 97% you should already be taking damage and cooking off ammo if this game had any resonable heat system....
Personally, I agree.
But this gaming community would take a shjt on that idea and smear it all over the walls. I know, because I've suggested it before. It's not going to happen. More complicated = angry twitcher noobs.

MW4 your molymer quit working, so overheting your mech made you sluggish...really bad if youa re getting swarmed by lights, you have to pace your shots to keep your maneuverability...
OFC if they added these features they would have to give us 2.0 doubles...

Eh, we've literally suggested hundreds of ideas, none of which were ever listened to. My favorite was a dual heat bar idea. 1 Bar shows the next penalty and the other shows you how close you are to having it. Let's be realistic, the game has a high learning curve as is and PGI doesn't want to confuse any new players that come in.

Or Run Hot and Die, if you're not careful.

yah but FK those people...those people are the reason we lost the entire community which had waited years for this game
(this includes "those people" who work for PGI)

just imagine 97% not of fusion temperature but rather 97% of limit of safe operation;
why is it so hard?
just use your imagination? it's not explicitly stated that 97% means "97% of solar core temperature" or something like that.
why do you let such small things bother you? it's obvious pgi is going to try and simplify the user interface as much as they can, your average random person who plays videogames cannot figure out what's going on with their mech without third person or throttle decay (allegedly)

Did anybody notice we were loosing by 7 while everybody else was chainfiring at 20% heat. If I can get 2 extra alphas and deny all of the 5 mechs I am battling a kill, I am a happy camper.

What we got was ghostheat and coolant flush.

Oh, how i wish we got a proper heat-scale with penalties for running too hot! But, alas, we've got to cater to the ADHD crowd.

It's ironic that in over-simplifying core components like heat and the skill tree, PGI seems to have forced themselves out into the weeds with some pretty convoluted balancing corrections. If they would dedicate an equivalent amount of time they've spent in the past two years on the UI giving us a heat system with real consequences for alpha-happy builds, coupled with a deep skill tree that allows players to customize their role on the battlefield, most of the funky fixes (from non-double-double heatsinks, endless nerf/buff cycles, overquirking, and everything in between) would be unneccessary.
