Now negative quirks suck - and they need to go, but the question is how. I believe that the below small adjustment - followed by some POSITIVE quirks on the lower tier Clan mechs, would help re-balance clans - reducing the top tier mechs without needing negative quirks. + provide a bit more of a stable balance to the game.
Firstly let me say that Clan XL Engines are not the issue. Yes you could partially solve the problems of Clan vs IS by adjusting them, but I don't think this is the correct path. I am happy enough with their survivability vs not having options available to them.
IMO the issue which represents the easiest to balance is clan weapon weight.
So how do we solve the problem
Make Clan weapons the same weight as IS weapons. Do that and you reduce the overall weaponry that they can take to the party lowering the disparity between the 2 sides by a small amount. AGAIN you offset this by POSITIVE quirks on the underpowered clan mechs - EG the Gargoyle, summoner, Ice Ferret etc etc.
For ballistic this would give the advantage slightly to IS. clan still has better critical slot usage + better overall weight available, IS has the better projectiles - Clan projectiles would need another small tweak to compensate - but clan Gauss would still be better due to crit slots.
When it comes to energy weapons Medium lasers stay the same for all 1 T each with clan still having a small win, but things like large pulse laser goes up by 1 T for clans. as Fupdup stated in the first page - the clan LPL is very strong right now, make it 1 T heavier provides a small adjustment to the overall build of the mechs using it, changing the balance by a few % for each one they take.
Overall clan TECH is probably about 10% better than IS currently. this adjustment would bring that back into even more whilst still leaving clans streaks, range, lasers, slots advantages. Whilst leaving IS with ballistic advantages.
what do you all say, is it worth a trial of this for a weekend coupled with an event of some description to see if this would work.
