I recall a different online game I used to play where this happened exactly. It had a player counter until it got too low, at which point it was permanently removed.

PGI have stated it is for commercial reasons. Guess they don't want World of Tanks poaching the million plus players we have here. Oh wait that's not right.....!

Good lord I remember the absolute idiocy demonstrated on these forums when there was a player counter and quite honestly... I'm not sure we need to see it again.

How folks could look at a single snap-shot in time and fail to project those numbers through a rolling global time composite was mind-numbing.

Clear demonstration that information in the hands of idiots is a dangerous thing...

I am a bit surprised. I looked over the member list. 31007 pages, 20 names on each page. I did not look over every page, but did notice something on the few pages I did. A lot of people have a faction chosen. After the battle of Tukayyid every ones Faction contract was recent. A lot more people than I would have sought, have logged in at least to choose a new faction.
