For the TLDR crowd: I would like to see the standard Pug Match replaced with a Solaris type game mode, and this is my suggestion on how to do that.

I've been thinking about how the game play is becoming stagnant for me, and what ways that I think that the game could improve. This is only my opinion not a declaration of how I think they need to change the game to fit me.

First thing on my list has to do with Pug Matches because I think that they are basically a pointless grind. I know that many people have asked about having Solaris matches and even though PGI has stated that they do not want to do this (at least yet) I think that we could change the standard Pug Match into Solaris Type matches and I would be much more fun all around.
  • To do this I would replace the standard pug cue.
  • When a player wants to join in he would first need to select 1 mech from each of the four weight classes.
  • This would be similar to how mechs are selected for CW matches.
  • Then the player would select a preferred weight group and launch, but if there were not enough players for that weight class cue the match maker could put them into a different weight category using a mech of the appropriate weight class from the players list of mechs.
  • Instead of their being two teams we could have more teams with less players
    • 6 teams 1 lance each (My preference) or
    • 3 teams 2 lances each
    • We could still have the same Match Types but I think that it would be much more dynamic with more teams. And yes the win loss records are going to go to hell this way.
  • PGI sponsored tournaments could easily be organized with this system (or at least I think so) that would make more sense than the ones that they have going now. Leader boards could be organized based upon matches one, kills made and so on.
Anyway, this is just a suggestion and I would like to see some feedback from the players. I'm sure that I've missed details that could make this idea better and I would like to hear from anyone interested.

I think the public queue should be 4 game modes:
  • Solaris Deathmatch (no teams, only Solaris maps)
  • Solaris Team Deathmatch (same as current Skirmish, but on Solaris arena maps)
  • Conquest (I hate this game mode, but some people seem to like it)
  • Assault (Which is now being changed to Quasi-Invasion mode, according to Russ)
I don't like the system of making people choose one mech from each weight class. Besides, it doesn't make any sense in Solaris. To me, Solaris needs to be either individual death match or team deathmatch (i.e. Skirmish). 6 teams or 3 teams is too hard to balance in asymmetrical maps, I imagine it will lead to certain spawn positions being a death sentence.

Fair enough. I was borrowing from the previous Mechwarrior series. They had weight classes and I used that as a suggested game type here. As for the team sizes thats just a suggestion.....thought it might add some spice but it might not appeal to everyone.
