Someone told these guys the streakcrow was OP and unbeatable. I've seen my share charging around a corner into a lance of assault mechs because that light they were chasing went and hid behind them.

It's almost as easy as fishing for Firestarters was back when the Mist Lynx first came out. Find one, plink at it ( if necessary ) watch it drop its pants running straight for you, reel it in to your heavy and assaults. :)

Its got to be that the crow pilot gets a lock at 700m and thinks "I've got lock!!" Need to get in range - and b-lines it right for the target. I've seen this so many times it's just a uprising anyone uses this tactic at all. Hence, when I think it may be a knee jerk reaction to a target lock.

Or you get what happens to me....playing a MLX in canyons, see the StreakCrow coming for me and run to the rest of my team, while keeping him targeted (so they know he is there).....only to have the entire team completly ignore him, despite him being the ONLY visible target. I die. Another light dies, and the crow just saunters away like nothing happened.

Only took a Dire Cow to kill him...despite not being able to aim.....2 min after his jaunt through the team.

**Edit: Spelling fixes**

The Streak Crow is similar to the LRM boat; lock and fire, easy hits, easy damage. It gets that 30 match score easily so that players can grind fast. In short, it's a gimmick for the event that doesn't have much actual function aside for being a one-trick poney that's flashy and frightening to Light Mechs.

I run it exclusively on my Gold Crow. Why?

Because they nerfed lazers and I have other mechs that run Clan ballistics better. I run 4 SSRM6s and either 4 smpl or 2 mpl and it is a beast. I am like a crow, picking my time to feast...at start of match if a light mech crosses my path I attack with a fury. But for the rest, I protect the backside of whale's etc until most enemy mechs are damaged then I pounce and I get 4-5 kils and over 100 point matches. It all about patience with the streak crow and heck of a lot of fun as a completely different playstyle then other builds.

I tried the StreakCrow this weekend. 5x SSRM6, CAP and 7 tons ammo. I do not particularly like the playstyle, but it did have a few learning moments.

Had an Atlas DDC walk passed me to fire on my heavier allies. Apparently he did not consider a StreakCrow to be a threat for a 100 ton Mech with ECM.
A few vollies to the back from less than 10m may have changed his mind, when his engine blew.
Lesson: Never turn your back on an opponent regardless of how big you are.

In another match, I rounded a corner to find a Hellbringer and friends waiting for me. Tried to fire a volley while retreating. No target lock, Streaks would not fire. I never made it back around that corner.
Lesson: Plan your moves, blind cover is not your friend. If you break cover to take a shot, have a target lock first. Streaks are not a good choice for reflex fire.

StreakCrow does spread a lot of damage. Personnally, I prefer more focused damage. Not really a big fan of the LBX ACs either, for much the same reason.

I know some people enjoy and do well with them. To each their own. I am not here to tell anyone how to enjoy the game. Just relating a few experiences I had.

Everyone knows Streakcrows are specialized light mech hunters. Which means two things:
1) The Streakcrow pilot has a limited number of targets on the battlefield that he can take out in a straight fight. So when he spots a light mech, it's only logical to attack it.
2) The Streakcrow build is generally going to lose against the majority of mechs. It is indeed a sort of kamikaze tactic. The pilot is basically sacrificing his chances of doing well in the long run for the sake of... killing light mechs. I think it's fairly likely that most Streakcrow pilots are in fact Dire Wolf pilots who have been dominated by Firestarters in hundreds, thousands of matches. I guess playing Streakcrows is a kind of catharsis for them. Every now and again, they play Streakcrows for an hour or two, eat a lot of ice cream and go cry in the shower.
