Hi,

See that Zeus is now available for c-bills... but why bother getting another 80 ton mech?

I have Awesomes and Victors... what can a Zeus do that is better than those mechs?

I'd like to hear objectively from Zeus owners that also have Vics and Awesomes...

Thanks!

Wait... what builds are you using? I am really curious, especially the Victor since that was my favorite mech some time ago.

The Zeus can't energy boat as well as Awesomes due to it's lack of hardpoints and energy quirks. It also can't carry an AC20 or hoverjet like the Victor.

However, it's got +HP quirks and good hitboxes for extra durability, XLs pretty well, and has a solid array of hardpoint options including missile fist and a tight grouping of torso energy hardpoints.

I don't know if I'd say it's the best of the three, but it's certainly different.

Missile fisting.

I can't give a complete assessment, because I never got around to completely elite-ing my Zeuses. (Zeusii? Is Zeus already plural?)

I've Mastered Awesomes and Victors a long time ago, and I can say that the Zeus gives you a hardier package, in a slightly smaller size, while still being very agile. It has the hitboxes for STD or XL engines, and a variety of options for load out. It falls behind the Awesome in weapon based quirks, but many find the Armor quirks better than structure quirks. (and the ZEU-5S has 20 additional CT armor. That's armored way above it's weight). It's missing the ability to mount an AC/20 or two UAC5s as the Victor can, as well as the HoverJets™, but offers a few more energy hardpoints. It's a good all around mech, and tends to fill in the Laser vomit and generalist roles better.

Can take an absolute crapton of punishment and run XLs like a dream, unless, of course, you neglect twisting?

Just gonna take a stab at this one here....

Something it can do the others can't?

Obviously, be a Zeus! Duh....

It got the hitpoint boost that the Awesomes didn't? It has an energy heavy variant, it has a missile focused variant, it has a ballistic variant, and it has a rounded variant.

The Victor's saving grace is AC20 + JJs, which it doesn't even do well.

The Awesome's saving grace is it has a variant that can boat PPCs, which are suboptimal weapons.

Good:
  • XL friendly
  • Hit-box friendly
  • Good scaling
  • Three distinct iterations: Missilier, laser vomit and dakka.
  • Good qurks
Bad
  • Very hemisphere biased.

Ugly
  • Arms held at really funky and unfortunate angle, all the time.

True, if people are paying attention or have experience with the zeus, they'll always focus the left torso.

I own, have mastered, and regularly pilot Awesomes and Zeuses.

Here's what the Zeus do.

Given it's massive amount of armor quirks, you can make some impressive sword-and-board style builds. The -9S build I stoke works like this: 3 large pulse lasers and 3 medium pulse lasers with a standard engine. All the lasers are spread between the CT, LT, and LA, so you can (and damn well should) use the entire right side of the body as a shield. Be sure to lose your RA and RT before letting your left side lose it's armor.

My build goes ~66 kph after speed tweak. To play it is really easy - you motor to the front line and stand behind / beside cover with your team mates behind you. When the enemy pokes, you dump a 50 point alpha into their face. They shoot, you twist it onto your right side, they retreat, wash rinse repeat. If all goes as planned, you become an asset to your team by tanking way better than any 80 tonner can.

The other Zeus I play frequently runs something like 18 srms + A and 4 medium pulses. It's not as inspired a build and plays similarly, your reload times (and heat per alpha) are just less. No good build for the resistance variant yet, but people like the 2xac/5 + lasers + srm brawler, and that build does seem to have good DPS.

They gonna hate my 5S and 6T then.

its by far not as fat as the others :D
its more versatile overall. several VIABLE builds on all variants unlike awesome which are pretty limited to their quirks.
victors are victors... i love my 9S as a *fast* jumping brawler. but a zeus can tank far better than awesomes or victors.

What can a Zeus do that an AWS and VTR cant?
Umm, shield better then a Greek Phalanx, considering it has 2 parts on the right you can use as a shield. Also, its got armor quirks, giving it the armor factors of a DWF, so, it basically has the armor of a mech 20t heavier, with significantly better hit boxes, smaller overall size and 2 shield sections. Not to mention, AC5 quirks for the I think 9s or w/e......thing is a monster. So far, I love my ZEU. My IS Acct with it is like 20k 7d?

LOL Victor. Poor, poor Victor. my HBK's have nearly equal ST health, and can carry almost the same podspace worth of loadout while moving the same speed, unless you put an XL in the Victor. But again, my HBK has nearly the same ST health soooo...

Awesomes are the red head's in MWO. They have their place. Zeus doesnt play anything like them. At all. Ever. So it is basically a non-comparison IMO. Awesome plays one way, Zeus does things differently.

So the answer, OP, is: Zeus does what Zeus does, and the others don't.
