This applies to many mechs. All I will cover in this thread are the EBJ and GRH.

Feel free to add your own loadouts that suffer from customization options similar to those I give examples of

So this morning before work I began to tinker with my shiny new Cauldron Borns'. I stuck to the stock load outs for the most part. I like to get a feel for my mech before I go all crazy and such, eh.
I got to the EJB-A,...

OMG THOSE HIGH ENERGY AND BALLISTIC POINTS

I sprouted a big rubbery one!!! ... Here's my current build on it because I couldn't resist those juicy hardpoints:

EDIT** I actually run 2.5 tons after screenie. haha oops... It's maxed at 65

I will be focusing on the Left Torso. Notice how I have this random small laser in there ruining my OCD.

Here is what it looks like without that small laser:

There is an obvious difference.
It's a big deal in terms of competitive building!!! While I'd love to grab an extra half ton of guass ammo, or shed some armor for a heat sink, I can't. I love having a battery of lasers for a back up weapon, especially in a snipe niche build like this. Newer mechs are notorious for this kind of weapon placement
But, unfortunately, it all depends on what weapon you put on that section first, aka, ER small laser. I have to put that small laser in the left torso FIRST in order to fully utilize those massive energy points!!! If I don't the PPC is automatically placed into the torso.

Moving onto the Grasshopper, I noticed a similar problem.
Current build for my 5H Right torso. LT is the same:

You will notice the medium laser is above the ER Large in the loadout. If I had done it the other way around, The ERLL would be way down in my pelvic region, rendering it... useless.

How high a hardpoint is placed on a mech can make it or break it. Low slung hardpoints suck ass. Especially a mech with JJ's like the grasshopper. You expose %40 of your body to fire those ERLL if they were mounted in the lower torso.

The community has been active lately, what are your guys' thoughts? While it's not a detrimental, game breaking issue, customization is half of the game for me. being able to select what weapons go where on pre-determined points would be spectacular

It would be amazing for many mechs (Banshees top of the list, Grasshoppers second) if they didnt have to pay the small laser tax to use the good hardpoints.

What i think PGI should do, if making it possible to dynamically choose the hardpoint you want is too hard, is make the best (highest) mount the first one instead of it being the worst (lowest) one first.

The devs had this functionality listed in a poll a while ago, where you could vote on 'nice to have' stuff.

Can't remember how it did, but at least it's on the radar.

or they could add a "empty" weapon to place on the weapons slots to take space etc.
Not optimal though.

That's good to know. It's seems silly to have to 'pay' to use the clearly superior hardpoints. Widowmaker made a good point that the best hardpoints are filled first, that would work. An idea I had would be able to tick a box to 'fill' a hardpoint at he cost of 1 slot.
