Ever have a mech you didn't think you were going to like, but after using it became one of you favorites?

For me it would be the Quickdraw. On paper it looks like a big CN9-AL, and reminds me of a cricket with those weird antennae sticking off its head. After using one, then two, then mastering all of them I have to say I freakin love it now, becoming one of my favorites.

How about you guys, any one else have any surprise favorites out there?

Blackjacks.

When they first came out I thought they looked hideous and wouldn't touch one. Now they've grown on me (looks like some dismembered body from silent hill) and are one of my favs.

Zeus.

Not an Assault guy to begin with, the VTR had been an exception because of speed and agility and JJs (mind you, this was all pre-nerf), but 80 tonners are generally pretty MEH because they are really just pudgy Heavy Mechs, usually.

Well, between Alex's art, the modelers rendering, and then the Quirks, this went from the Resistance Mech I was least interested in, to my outright favorite, and favorite Assault now, Is or Clan. Thing is pretty mobile, decently armed, versatile and tough as nails. Having a very small and compact silhouette helps, too.

Pretty stoked, because between this and the Urbanmech, I now have Assault and Light options to my preferred Medium class.

Cicadas. I took them originally for a Med with ECM, and now never use the ECM variant.
The 2B with Wubs is a vicious little scalpel, quick burn and quick on it's feet. I find them surprisingly survivable if played like a light.

Yen Lo Wang. I don't usually like cannons in the arms. It's quite fun to use on this one though.

Mad Dog. Wen I picked up Wave 2 I was very unsure about the Gargoyle, but by upping my order to the Gargoyle pack I got 3 more mechs on top of that? Ok, sure, why not, right? Never was a huge fan of missiles, but what the hell. So, Wave 2 hits, I get my Mad Dogs, kit 'em out, and... Suddenly it was love. These things are glorious a**hole mechs.

as we mature, we start to appreciate the finer things in life. YLW is like a fine wine, in the teeming Budweiser masses of MWO. ;)

I was surprised by how well I do in mine. I had always liked them, but never done well in previous MW titles with them (Timbies, either, actually). But man, that chassis clicks for me.

Enforcers....totally didn't' expect to like them. Figured another 50 ton blah blah blah.

But now they have rekindled my love for 50 toners.

I use mine as a pocket Summoner......not as devastating in it as a HBK, but if I do my part and adapt playstyle, I do almost as well as in CN9s in one. It's pretty sweet having a jumping option for my Trooper Mechs.

for me:
Oxide > Jenner F > Nova > Timber Wolf > Summoner > Griffin 2N

________________Matches Played
Oxide ___________13,309
Jenner F__________1,342
Nova_____________1,657
Summoner ________1,575
Timber Wolf _______1,082

I first fall in love with the Oxide because I heard the spectacular explosive noises that it makes. Plus the trailer was pretty good.
Then I brought it and realized its potential. O.O

here is the Oxide trailer

Got to be Enforcer. Didn't think it would be anything spectacular. But man that dual U/AC5 one is just devistating. I go up against Crabs and Dires and most of the time I'll either rip em a quick death or severely damage them. Easily average 600+ damage. It is just like wow!

Centurion AH.

Didn't like centurions much in closed beta, AH included.

Now that thing is my go-to medium for PUB queue.

Aye, it's the Quickdraw (4G) for me too.

Though, it's a real shame that PGI really hates her. Horribly oversized, Large movement archetype, pretty hardpoint starved, lackluster model/animation/dynamic hardpoints (the lasers look fine, but the missiles hardpoints are all kinds of messed up, there are only like 3 different models for the side torso missiles(4, 6 and 10 tubes), and 2 different models for the CT missiles (2 and 4 tubes)).
The whole package seems to be rushed (which, i'm pretty sure it actually was, because they were supposed to release the Orion, but someone messed up and they had to release the Quickdraw first (?))

But yeah, despite her flaws and poor reputation, she's still my favorite.

Kintaro 18 streakboat. It's just so dang fun to chase things faster than they expect to be chased, spitting missiles about as fast as a Huginn can (admittedly chainfired). It's not exactly the tankiest thing out there, but it's fun.

Urbanmech :).

I bought it for the cute and mere fun of having it. I also wanted to help make it a reality because it was so unusual and interesting. I assumed I'd never really enjoy playing it because it would be too slow. I figured it would just be an oddity in my collection.

Then I started playing it. The first few builds I tried just didn't work for me, but I had fun with such a ridiculous machine. Then I tried different builds, I found builds that worked for me, and now I feel the little trash can is a riot to play. Fun, unique, and actually capable of doing damage and getting kills.

That little mech spoils me with its 360° Torso twist, and the high mount arms a long with quick reverse movement make it great for using terrain.

Yup, this little mech was a great surprise. I have been surprised by other mechs (like the Zeus more recently), but none as much as my Urbie.

I even won a match battling 1v1 against a Raven 3L at the end and I was worse off. Yea, that isn't a Firestarter (which would have shredded me), but it wasn't bad either.

Urbanmech FTW!

Picking up the CN9-D after not playing it for a couple of years was a real surprise. Of course it's been quirked to high heaven, but I don't remember having a LB-10X and dual SRM-4s was so fun?

It's not helping matters that I'm 12-2 for kills/deaths in my first four drops either. I mean, this is a good defeat, is it not?
