Oh yeah. Forgot about that rule. Still, without jump jet you'd be hard pressed to get many long range shots onto a target before they are within their weapons range. So exploiting the range will be difficult/highly dependent upon the map. TT had the same problem with AC/2s: too many trees and hills, usually.

MW3 had to be a golden age for small ACs.

Nah, you just got to use teamwork. Hang back in the Jagermech and blaze away with your AC's while the Hunchbacks, Cataphracts, and Atlas roll forward. Then they have to either suffer in silence from your barrage while they fight the enemy in their face, fall back, or try to get to you (which would be bad turning their back to the close range brawlers.) Teamed up with the right mechs, the standard Jagermech can dole out a constant 14 points of damage (the combined total of all 4 AC's) in support of its lancemates, at least as long as its ammo lasts, and it carries 40 shots for each type.

The way to play a jager mech is not to "hunt". What you want is for your team mates to actually lead people into your kill zone where you're already setup for the nice kill. Its like what snipers are suppost to play as, not the latest incarnation of FPS snipers who move around like ants on crack, but real snipers.

If we can fit endo-steel to the Jager (haven't really seen what kind of restrictions they're thinking of for endo, if any), looking at downgrading the engine to a 3/5 and swapping it for an XL, and completely tearing out the energy complement. Swapping the 2 AC/5's and 2 AC/2's out for 4 UAC/5's and a full 7 tons of ammo. Rounding it out by adding 3.5T of armor to the upper body and lowballing the legs (if I'm getting shot at, I've messed up, and losing a side torso or arm will be far more crippling then being slowed down).

Kind of made to be a sniper, it's slow, get in position and wait for the prey to come into the arena, then light it up and keep it rocking while your lance mates engage. Yeah, eventually you'll run out of ammo and be utterly useless, but by that point the game should be decided 1 way or the other. Considered this a fitting build considering ManDaisy's last sniper post. =)

I would recommend this design

12.5 tons armor (24 pts in each leg, rest armor is full)

10 single heat sinks

3/5 engine standard

Endo Steel

2 medium laser
2 Ultra ac 5's (2 tons ammo)
2 ac 2 ( 1 ton ammo)
1 AMS

If ultra AC 5 have reduced cycle time then they should match up nicely with the regular ac 2's timing.

Cost: 4,760,085 C-bills Heat: 12 / 10
Crits: 12 of 47 BV: 1,077

Looks freaking awesome! I love the loadout too, should offer some nice fire support and keep mechs rocking off target.

Excellent. The Jagermech when played effectively is quite a sight.

Now everyone wanting either the rifleman and Urban can have a toy even tho both are terrible mechs and this is much nicer! See how they look after you.

um...what? rifleman has longer battle longevity than the heavily ammo reliant jagermech and the jager is actually cannonicly a redesigned rifleman rifleman has the large and med lasers to fall back on to do consistent damage without ammo when it runs out where the jager... once its out only has a few popgun med lasers to defend itself with but hte jagers still badass and since the rfl is unseen ill probably never get to play with it

First thing to do - replace those useless ACs with dual gauss rifles B)

Well, this mech can be very interesting.
First of all - it requires very skilled pilot.
Secondly - it can crush lights easily
and third - I just can't wait to see how it tears through head armor of Atlases B)

Agree. Skill of pilot combined with the overall tactical skill of his/her lancemates (company) is how the JagerMech's effectiveness will be determined.

I've always been partial to Jägermeister. I guess a Jagermech would be equally indifferent to me...

So people are going to shoot scouts on range with uac/5's? Not right now, I don't think so, unless the scout runs in a straight line, but then thats cannon fodder.
