Just read the whole story about what's been going on with the new Mechwarrior title.

It seems there's been alot of interest in the title since it was announced and that Infinite took over as the publisher replacing S&T.

The new Mechwarrior title was announced...what...a year ago? A year and some months?

So am I to assume no actual work as been made on the game yet? Or has work been done but since the titles publishers have changed any work that was done is now being scrapped and they're starting over from scratch now?

I hope that development on the game is atleast in the alpha stages of development and that some minor tweaks and changes are being made to accomodate for the change in direction the game is headed.

Anyone got some input on this?

The Day0 blog says they did have chunks of time here and there to work on it. So I'm pretty sure they already have a foundation to build upon.

As for the publisher... Smith and Tinker more or less went out of business when Nanovor came out... I'm not sure how they didn't see that coming... :)

Oh and edit: Back when it was still 3015, and that original trailer we saw a few years back... that was built on the Unreal Engine. Since I doubt they would dump it and start over, I'd be pretty confident to say it was an Unreal based game, and as an engine is actually phenomenally easy to work with. Even small teams have accomplished some pretty amazing things.

If I'm not mistaken Duke Nukem Forever was on Unreal Engine which would lend credibility to that theory. Keep in mind also they have 50 devs IIRC, which is- as far as F2P games anyway- a pretty large dev team.

Can you explain this part to me? What happened to Smith & Tinker? What happened to them?

Smith and Tinker where never a publisher. S&T, just owned the license, which it leased from Microsoft. They wanted to work with PG Studios to make the game happen. No publisher was found for the original pitch. Then after DNF was done, Russ and the company picked up the license from S&T to go it alone. I'm assuming that they just have a license for the IP? I'm not sure if they outright own the Electronic IP now? Infinitegame publishing looks like a new start-up, which is focused on digital publishing. It might be a venture focused specifically related to this project.

They were trying to throw out a "pokemon"-ish game onto the market. With monsters and stuff like that. This game is called "Nanovor". But it was a real fail at the market as far as I know. No bucks for S&T.

You sure you guys aren't talking about Piranah Games? (that's Russ)

Smith and Tinker 'IS' Jordan Weisman...he has rights to the Mech IP....he's not going anywhere...he created Battletech, and FASA,
Then sold Fasa to Microsoft....and later re-obtained rights to the Mechwarrior IP

The others are the Developers, and Publishers...hired and formed to create the game and promote it.
The new entity developing the game is a merging of piranah and another local (to them) company of dev's
to provide the manpower and experience to get the job done....something Russ hasn't been able to do by himself..
(not all his fault)
