I'm going to be honest with you both, just recorded a session, same spot, same amount used, EVEN SAME RESULT WITH JENNER IN THE 1ST VIDEO D:

But one thing is.... they all go the same way, at any distance... They have a spread of some sort, 4 to the top, 2 to the bottom... what in the hell...?

Like I said, Random Number Generator. Once you fire those missiles they are locked onto a randomly determined hit location on the target. I'm not certain if any location is more heavily weighted than the others (in table top there's a hit location table that you roll a pair of six-sided dice against, the bell-curve probability distribution of the resulting dice rolls makes torso hits much more common).

What exactly are you trying to prove with the video? That Missiles cannot be aimed? They aren't wire guided, or remote controlled. They launch and they all hit the target. That target being the size of a small building.

RNG is fine for missile hit locations.

I was showing Scout that even at 100 meters that Streaks don't cluster together, they still spread out and hit their assigned locations. Not sure if you were following the conversation or not.

Same reason ships are called "her"

I am pretty sure all my Mechs are named for male Norse Gods. Just checked again... Only my Jenner-S is named after a goddess "Freyja" who does have "war" as one of her domains.

I would put that into the category of trying for an aggressive name, to try to bring out aggression in the user/pilot/crew and intimidate the opponent. Sort of why we have mechs with names that harken back to weapons, types of warriors, and ancient heroes (Catapult, Cataphract, Orion).

Then you have things that try to blend the two ideas. Like the famous pirate Blackbeard, who's ship was named "Queen Anne's Revenge".

Take a look.

Commando takes 3 hits, like you said, Jenner took same amount of damage (maybe a bit closer to it, but still) at 2:00 and for the streaks going the same way, go to 3:34. Indeed it does show that locations is more heavily weighted than others, as the streaks fire differently when hit on the atlas compared to the Catapult.

Link wasn't ready, look below to see.

I think you may have accidentally left out a link?

well i think i just will test, it's easy

....by my tests point blank shots are not 100% targeted but are significantly more focused than if you shoot from a further distance, like you can easily core cicada to orange in one point blank alpha, if you shoot from a further distance it won't be cored. funnily but commando takes point blank better than cicada

it seems that those missiles which have no time to aim for a random location hit as srm

those missiles which are aimed to another mech hit any target in their path as srm too, i tested it

I don't think I saw anything there that might constitute the probabilities being weighed. But with a good RNG the results are about as close to random as you can practically get. And in randomness things that look like patterns (but really aren't) will emerge. It's the nature of randomness, it doesn't care if it generates results that might be construed as a pattern.

The only way to be completely sure is to compile hundreds (dare I say thousands) of tests and compile the data... Or ask PGI, and hope we get a response. (As to whether you trust their response, well, I can't help you on that one. They don't have a reason to lie, but some of the folks around here wouldn't trust PGI if they said water is wet.)

So they fly like Buck shot? Shot gun pattern is much tighter in close than further away.

The Cicada get extra hits on teh CT due to the "head" being right in front. That is adding to the CT area cause we are not allowed to actually do damage to the head except for the tiny hit box.

I remember that streaks' hit probability is indeed weighted. This is what I could find:

http://mwomercs.com/...23-16-jul-2013/

I can't quote that post and I get bad format from copy-pasting the text.

TL;DR:
16% for CT, 12% for RT/LT, and 15% for RA/LA/RL/LL. Destroyed components are assigned zero value and the others are re-weighted with new values. Destroyed legs are still targeted. When a component is destroyed when the missiles are in flight, they will target the neighboring component instead.

Interesting, good find.

So they are weighted, favoring the limbs and the CT over the side torsos. It's a relatively small weighting until arms get blown off, though.

But it looks damn silly to have a Streak missile that was aimed at the torsi at near point blank range, to suddenly go for the leg or arm instead.

I watch many a tracer round go flying off into space to be concerned if a missile doesn't fly as expected. It's military equipment. Lowest bidder gets the contract. ;)
