Just had a match in which the Red team was leading 2-0, but retreated to their base. That seems like it goes against how the game is expected to be played. Since Blue is then forced to attack Red's base, all of Red's missile turrets come into play, even those Blue doesn't have sight of.
Would it be better to have turrets hibernate whenever a teammate is within 500 meters? It would also fix the last-mech-runs-back-to-base scenario.

Retreating to the relative safety of the base is a viable tactic. If the enemy does it, either shoot the turrets or wait him out.

I agree 100% that it is a viable tactic. What I was trying to say was, "I don't like these rules regarding turrets." If most other players are happy with turrets as they are, then great: I won't feel like I'm cheating when I recommand a retreat to turrets.
However, if other players don't like the current turret rules, and enough of them say so, maybe the rules might get changed.

Retreating to a fortified position after inflicting casualties upon an enemy and increasing pressure on him to pursue is by far one of the most basic and useful military tactics. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and it shows tactical thinking, discipline and leadership. An enemy that does such things and is actually able to pull them off effectively is simply better than you and deserves to succeed with his course of action.
If anything, stationary defences should become better when friendly units are spotting targets for them.

Turrents can br easily neutralisd in 80% of situations if you have a few long range weps. Its reall not that much on an issue.
My only problem with turrents is ecm doesnt work at all against them that is ****.
