Firstly, Hello all !
I have just finished my cadet bonus thingy ma bob and can now post in the grown up area ...
A couple of questions :
I'm using IE to view the website and type this but the web site doesn't seem to like IE, what is the best browser for this site ?
I have chosen to buy the Griffin bundle, but is there a reason it is almost as tall as the assault battlemechs ?
Hope to get the chance to blow you up soon.

Firstly

Firefox and Chrome works fine.
As for the Griffin, the modeling team ****** up its size, as with many other mechs. Still one of the best Medium chassis though, so you got your money's worth.

In the reply editor, click the light switch in the top left corner. The typing lag will go away and you will be able to use copy/paste, and quote people properly using IE. I believe IE is the only browser with the problem.
Mech scaling can be questionable at times.

I recommend chrome of firefox, IE has problems with lots of websites.
Many mechs are scaled a bit weirdly, no particular reason for that I think. The griffin is still a very good medium mech though, Some of the best shield arms in the game and several excellent variants including the ECM capable 2N. It's typically played as an SRM brawler, which is strongest in group play due to the coordinated pushes but still ok for solo. Also one of the nicest cockpits with clear view on all sides.

Making web pages is hard, that's why there are so few of them on the internet.
I'd really like to disable the background image on my phone, it causes all kinds of display problems. Unfortunately themes are limited to Mobile (which is surprisingly worse on my mobile phone) or Desktop.

Herro!
I've noticed that too -- Firefox and Chrome are both programs that I use. Admittedly Chrome I use for the safest browsing experience and Firefox I use for um, collecting media rapidly. Yesh.
Oh the answers I could give here.
Many things affect the lore of mech height. For example endo steel is supposed to make you larger, but this something that has never been shown in a Mechwarrior game due to limitation (instead they usually lock out the ability to put it in).
That said: Here's a scale of a number of mechs in MWO. It includes 25, 35, 40, 50 (smallest), 50 (largest), 55 (smallest), 55 (largest), and finally the only 100 ton mech at the time.
I'm sorry this does not include the Griffin (as it was not the smallest or largest). Warning: Clicking the spoiler will cause a very large animated gif file to load which compares multiple mechs for scale.
Note: This only shows a side perspective.
Griffin Kintaro comparison (because at the time people used to think the Kintaro was the tallest 55 tonner... which has never been true; I have comparisons of Kintaro versus all 55 tonners, in which it's proven that the Shadowhawk is the tallest 55 ton mech in MWO).
The Griffin and the Kintaro are the middle ground for height at 55 tons, with the Wolverine being the shortest and the Shadowhawk being the tallest. Stormcrow is a little taller than Wolverine but not quite as tall as the Griffin. Even so the Stormcrow has one of the largest amounts of surface area of any 55 ton mech in MWO thus far. The Atlas is 17.6 meters tall, but the Atlas is also 1.6 times as wide as the Griffin and quite a bit thicker too. (You might notice short of the metal shoulder plates, the Griffin is pretty anorexic.)
That said, Battletech (source material) scales are really wild, as sometimes a 50 ton medium mech (Nova with standard structure and standard armor) would be 0.4 meters shorter than a 30 ton light mech (Kitfox with endo steel and ferro armor) and 0.3 meters shorter than a 35 ton light mech (Adder with standard structure and ferro armor), or a 65 ton mech as wide as a barn, as long as an airport runway (exaggerated) and frequently described as less than 8 meters tall (Ebon Jaguar / Cauldron Born). But the Ebon Jaguar's width and length in lore, including very squat but incredibly thick legs were where all the weight went. Low to the ground, difficult to hit, incredibly stable. The MWO one seems to be short for an MWO mech of 65 tons, fairly wide (like Dragon wide; dang that's wide) and decently long. So it kinda fits the bill.
Anyway. One thing to remember is humanoid mechs will always be taller than chicken walkers. It makes up for the reduced horizontal front and side profiles. In general you still have less surface area than chicken walkers of the same weight. Just look at the Battlemaster versus the Stalker.
