the idea behind this event is to promote zellbrigen, highlight the differences between inner sphere and clans - and have a sort of double event all rolled into one

have clan mech players opt in to have themselves ranked for solo kills, average number of solo kills per match or something like that, like an honor combat reward. you could also count kill most damage dealt as part of the score.

at the same time, inner sphere players would be able to opt in, to have themselves ranked against other inner sphere players based on number of assists only - not kills- or better yet! raw damage + number of assists

so this would make a weekend that FEELS exactly like the clan wars in the lore of battletech.
inner sphere players would try and get as few kills as possible while trying to pepper everyone on the opposing team with chainfired weapons and dakka.

at the same time clan mechs would go all out with their brawler and sustained sniping rigs so that they can get solo kills on the enemy team in a bit of a suicidal way or just keep shooting the same guy from really long range

both of these styles of gameplay are sub optimal, so it would be great to see them both used against each other - would make it balanced in a very strange way

I find this idea hilarious. Also, not necessarily two different play styles. When first starting out, I would try to tag everyone once, to get assists, but then I'd focus in on one mech, to the exclusion of everything else. Kinda a hybrid between the two, or, one then the other, if you prefer.

Still, an interesting idea.

This is a neat idea. I would note that IS players should get credit for kills as well as assists though, otherwise gameplay gets borked (people avoiding kills). Similarly, Clan players should get credit for kill most damage as well as solo kill or else kill steal whining and occasional TK retaliation.

"Get solo kill" is a stronger gameplay style than "pepper everyone" even if it is suboptimal. And unless you lock this to CW-only then you aren't guaranteed to have a good balance/mix of Clan + IS on both sides.

Still, this could work out quite well. Have 8 leaderboards -- 1 per force per weight class -- with the usual "10 best matches" and tiebreakers scored on solo drops only (otherwise organized groups game the leaderboard).
IS Leaderboard Score Formula:
(Kill Assist x 2) + (Killing Blow x 5) + (Win x 10) + (Survive x 10) + ((Damage done - Team Damage) ÷ 15)
Clan Leaderboard Score Formula:
(Solo Kill x 5) + (Kill Most Damage x 15) + (Win x 20)

This way the top of the leaderboard will only count games in which IS players both won and survived unless they performed exceptionally well (150 extra damage than otherwise), but an IS player can also "make up" for missing a kill assist with 30 extra damage on their current target and make up for a kill with 75 extra damage. Clan players on the other hand have it all about what they did most, and the leaderboard top will also have to have won unless they could get one more solo kill than otherwise.

I'm also pretty sure that the top leaderboard scores would get to around 1300 on both sides.

i thought about that only a bit later...

maybe instead of counting kills for IS you could count "savior kills"
i think that would solve the problem quite nicely, because you'd get points for kills that save your buddies

Interesting idea, scoring players differently depending on their faction to encourage certain play styles for that faction.
