Okay, joking title aside, we all know the Summoner's flaws. Very light on the loadout capacity due to big engine, and fixed JJs. Leaves it somewhat lacking for top-end performance.

I bought a summoner waaay back when, basic'd it, and sold it as I was disappointed I couldn't do any of the fun things I could with it in MW4.

But, I'm reconsidering that decision, and contemplating buying another one to give it a try... I have 2 different builds in mind, but the question I have is...

How well does it jump? I honestly don't remember :x Is it almost as good as a Griffin loaded with JJs? Or is it more on the Highlander spectrum of near uselessness? If I can jump up onto the ledges in Viridian Bog, I'd be very happy with it...

Thanks

Not nearly as good as the Griffin, not nearly as bad as the Hoverlander You can't jump onto the ledges in Viridian Bog. I'm fairly sure you'll be disappointed again, I've never heard anyone say that the Summoner's jump jets were better than expected.

Unless you love the Summoner for the fact that it's a Summoner and all that nostalgia stuff, maybe save your money and wait and see if PGI ever gets around to giving it the JJ quirks they talked about.

Just in the testing grounds in my summoner prime. The low level ones you can easily do it.

As for the higher walls, the feature between D4 and C4, no, you will need to use the stairs.

Unmodified prime.

Currently Dunk ratings are as such, this is from Soy's metadunkmechs blog:

Spider: Spud Webb
Griffin: Michael Jordan
Nova: Vince Carter
Summoner: LeBron James
Panther: Nate Robinson

Dire Wolf S - Blake Griffin
Heavy Metal w/ 5 JJs - Dominique Wilkins

Mist Lynx: Derrick Rose (bumps into somebody on the way down and breaks his leg)

And of course, Vindicator = Julius Irving

I do love the Summoner for nostalgia ^^; And I love the way it looks, always have. I keep seeing them on the battlefield now and then, and every time I think... "Gosh, I wish that mech didn't suck in this game..." But, I don't think that's enough if it at the very least can't really jump... I just wish it didn't cost 14 Mil Cbills... That's a LOT of money. And I was thinking about investing in some Fenris' or Kitfox...

Thanks :3 That's about what I was thinking it would do. I wouldn't expect it to jump up onto the big ones everyone brawls on. I mostly use JJs for making a quick escape when I find myself in over my head XD Jumping over a wall is one of the quickest ways to lose an enemy mech.

I... know 2 of those names XD Michael Jordan, and LeBron James... but, I really don't know much about basketball :P Not even sure what made me pick the basketball themed title... Probably Futurama.

Summoners got some up's but its not really anything to write home about.

I saw someone rocking an interesting build the other day... It had a CUAC20 and 5 SRM2s. Looked like a pretty wicked machine, actually... That's what got me thinking about giving it a 2nd chance.

Every time I tried to poptart in a summoner......
  • Locate enemy
  • Find hill to hump
  • Hide behind hill
  • Hit the jets
  • Fire a shot
  • Hit the ground missing an arm

I am a fan of the summoner, always have been. But its still lacking in this game unfortunately and makes me sad....
But the builds i like are....

2x ERPPC 2x SRM6

2x LRM 10 (ARM) 1x LRM15 (LT) 2x ER Med Lasers

1x Gauss (RT) 4x ER Med Lasers
OR
U-A/C 20 and 4x Er Meds Or Sml Pulse

They all work OK for me, the LRM Summoner is a good time. Being that mobile with LRMs can make for fun games.

Yea, you show much mech before you get to take a shot...it stinks. Need more thrust to be really viable.

BUT!

Play run and gun is almost better, maps like HPG come to mind where you can run and jump between a gap or jump away and spin to get the shot off before dropping off a ledge. I play it more mobile then just the standard stand still and jump, its need a running start most the time anway.

The feel of the stock prime is fun. It's just really too bad it's under-armored and runs out of ammo in 15 seconds.

Run and Gun suits me well too :P That's probably why I get along so well with my Koala :3

I do prefer to have direct firepower, though I do enjoy my Founder's Catapult. But, I have that thing ludicrously maxed for it's roll... 2 LRM15+As, 3 SPLs, TAG, BAP, Control Console, both LRM 15 Modules, hold-lock module... that thing is hell on wheels XD And I've killed a LOT of mechs with those 3 SPLs after i've finally exhausted my 1500 rounds of missiles XD

I think I'm just gonna hafta throw the money at it and see for myself... At least I can get 1/4 of it back by selling the mech if I don't like it...

Really, I don't need that Fenris or Kitfox, with the Shadowcat and Arctic Cheetah coming out next month, both of which will obliterate those two mechs...

Dunk? lol, for 5 JJ's it barely can get off the ground, it's quirks don't make up for how craptastic it's 5 tonnes of JJ are.

I can't make it up onto the Viridian Bog platforms (without jumping onto a tree first and then jumping off the tree onto the platform) with 6 JJ Quickdraw
