Alright, so, I've got a question about Truedub heatsinks...

If I remember correctly, back in the day at least, only the internal heatsinks of the engine were 'Truedub" 2.0x cooling efficiency, while all others were 1.4x. This meant there was a maximum of 10 'Truedub" heatsinks on a mech.

Recently I've seen people comment several times, that the heatsinks installed in the free space of engines like the 300 series (which has room for 2 more heatsinks) count as 'truedubs'. Especially when referring to Clan mechs with their locked in heatsinks. That the Timberwolf has better cooling than, say, a Mad Dog, because it supposedly has more 'truedubs' on it.

That it's a commonly believed thing doesn't mean much here, large swaths of the community believe wrong/stupid stuff XD I've seen enough of that... But, I wanted to check on this one, as it's been a while since I remember hearing about it...

Also, Clan double heatsinks, are they still 1.4x? Or do they have a different multiplier?

Thanks!

The "invisible" sinks built into your engine will function twice as effectively as SHS, with a maximum of 10 Trudubs possible (requires engine rated 250 or higher). Any sinks on the outside, or sinks located in the "bonus" engine slots, will only be 40% better than SHS.

Clan DHS have the same cooling properties as IS DHS.

My impression is that any mech with an STD250 or XL250 engine (or bigger) has 10 truedubs. any heatsinks equipped outside the engine or in those extra heatsink slots on the engine are not truedubs.

In other words, the MDD and TBR have the same number of truedubs, because they both have an engine rating higher than 250, which is all that matters. The Mist Lynx has an XL175 engine with only 7 truedubs. In other words, of the Mist Lynx' 10 hard mounted heat sinks, only 7 are truedubs.

Maximum of 10 TrueDubs period, and only for 250+rated engines; engine mounted are still PoorDubs.

100-120 = 4x2
125-145 = 5x2
150-170 = 6x2
175-195 = 7x2
200-220 = 8x2
225-245 = 9x2
250-270 = 10x2 Additional are x1.4
275-295 = 10x2 Additional are x1.4
300-320 = 10x2 Additional are x1.4

I got this right?

No, if you must...

Read: Clan heatsinks and Surat heatsinks have been nerfed, to make PGI feel better.

No preference, equal opportunity nerf. Under no interpretation have clan heatsinks ever had better heat efficiency. Doubles in the source material were doubles, whether clan or inner sphere/star league. Clan's only advantage was 2 slots, rather than 3. They retain that.

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure something hadn't changed. Thanks for the confirmation! :D

Surprised no one has yet mentioned that with double basics unlocked, the 10 initial internal heat sinks perform better than 2.0 efficiency. If I recall correctly, up 17 double heat sinks total, with double basics unlocked and a 250+ engine size, are on average better than 2.0 efficiency. Beyond 17 DHS, the average goes below 2.0.

Yup 17 is the magic number here. Although it does not matter because if you Need more dhs you will install them

Huh... That's interesting.... Never thought about that...

Coolrun is 7.5%, so double is 15%. Truedubs would then run at 2.3, and dubs would run 1.61. So....

10x2.3=23
7x1.61=10.27
23+10.27=33.27
33.27/17=1.95xxxx per heatsink, which, yeah, is almost perfectly 2.0 heat efficiency...

So they DIDN'T nerf double heatsinks! Just made their full potential unlockable. (unless you're boating them) And having LESS than 17 you're actually running greater than 2.0 efficiency!

That's REALLY interesting! Thanks! Never even thought about that...
