I can almost see that but Russ did state the IICs aren't reused assets, they aren't just the Hunch or Orion with Clan toys in them, they are new Mechs with their own unique designs. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

I'm not literally saying they are going to be copy+paste, because that would be extremely lazy.

If the Gargoyle to Executioner is any recent indication, there's a lot less work that has to be done since you already have a base reference point to work from.

So, it's going to have some cosmetic tweaks for sure... but the majority of the work has already been done.

In my mind it won't be like the TBR/MDD, SMN/HBR, GAR/EXE leg copy pasta type reuse/work already done. I imagine Alex will draw up concepts and orthos, then it would go from there to the modellers like they would any new mech. I can't see much work already being done. I would hope anyway. No one knows until we see where they take the IICs to. They really could be doing a hck job on existing assets, but I personally doubt that'll be the case.

Yeah, they do tend to reuse pieces a lot, not something I'm personally fond of doing when I do 3d work, but I stopped doing game work and switched exclusively to artwork, so there's a huge difference there :) I'm waiting for Alex's work so we get an idea of what we'll be seeing, the man has yet to let me down, even if the ingame models don't match his vision, that vision is always a thing of beauty.

The actual 'MechWarrior' novel series?

No, not really. Pretty much anything after the FedComm Civil War was...not good. Both novel-wise and lore-wise.

There are, however, 'BattleTech' branded books that cover the lore from 3025-ish up through the end of the FedComm Civil War. I grew up on those books, many of them were amazing. And many of them were exactly what a robot-crazed little kid wanted in his reading material :P

There's a few good reading lists out there. And despite what folks will tell you, Michael Stackpole is not the Devil.

Stackpole is awesome! Some of the best novels I read are his (R.I.P. Michael Crichton).

If one is interested in the lore they can be. However, I would not go so far as to say many of them are well written. The Blood of Kerensky series is especially guilty of having too many characters and not spending enough time with any of them. For the full cheesy experience there are abridged audio books complete with 80's toy commercial sound track and sound effects for everything that is going on.

No, Mr Stackpole is NOT the Devil, just an authorized agent :)

There are many BTech novels out there, the Blood of Kerensky series by Mr Stackpole is actually an excellent set to start with as it covers the time period MWO is based in, the Clan Invasion.

Wolf on the Border is also an excellent novel, it gives some great insight into Mechs, Mech Warriors, House Kurita and the Wolf's Dragoons, it's probably my favorite of all the BTech novels.

There's also the Carlyle novels which cover the exploits of the Gray Death Legion, which starts off prior to the Clan Invasion and gives you a nice look into other Houses and Merc units.

And let us never forget the Warrior series, which informs us all as to why the Capellan Confederation must be cleansed with fire!

I'm quite fond of Stackpole's Warrior trilogy too.

i guess you could say these will basically be IS mechs with NO or NEGATIVE quirks, 99.9% guaranteed (or however this "new" balance system is to work). i look forward to these mechs but there is no doubt they will be very very far from anything resembling OP.

Well, the Hellbie didn't beat the Mad Cat which preceded it, but it did (and still does) beat most of the IS heavies so I guess it depends on where you put the baseline...

It's still cherry picking. So yes, if the entire Wave II pack was full of mechs that were at least competitive, those people lamenting this so-called power creep might have something resembling a leg to stand on. But instead they'd rather gloss over the terribads like the Myst Lynx, the Ice Ferret, and the Gargoyle.

Can you say the Myst Lynx and Ice Ferret are power creep? With a straight face? If it's power creep, it's creeping backwards. And this is completely disregarding the IS Resistance packs as well, which, let's face it, were practically drowning in mediocrity.

I stand by my statement that it is way too early to call the IIc mechs which are so new they're just a glint in the art department's eye at this point, power creep.

Correct, and also engines that can change.

Possibly without restrictions like IS robots, but I have a feeling they might have a secondary control, limits on top of set restrictions, like TT rules which are denominations of mech tonnage, and follow the current Clam speed brackets.

Doesn't affect too many, just heavier things, but a notable difference.

But, knowing PGI, there won't be any restrictions.

Or they will neg-quirk the everloving piss out of them.

warning you now, dont buy these right off the bat. Wait a month because they are going to be a little too flexible and will likely get nerfbatted to piss.

To put it short.

Imagine IS chassis with all their configuration options (DHS-Endo-Ferro, multiple engine choice) with clan weapons and engines.

Hmmmmm...... Clatlas.

That could be interesting.
