It shouldn't be a FPS.
But it is. And every patch for the last year and a half has been nudging it closer and closer to CoD with robots.
It should be a mechwarrior game.
But, it only sorta is. It started out like one. Game has changed, HSR improvments over time have simply magnified the shorter and shorter TTK.
The game has never been closer to "boom headshot" then it is today. DPS weapons, lasers with long burn times even, have never been more useless then they are right now.
Next up: Respawns!! That is how we will fix getting insta ganked by two alpha strikes. Drop deck respawns for all modes and maps. Instead of that mechanic bringing more strategy to the game, it will be used as a bandaid for people getting nuked in the first minute of the match(pugs) or to allow novice to mediocre assault pilots that take that one step out of place and get wrecked a chance to keep playing after they are massacred in 6 seconds flat.
I just wish game developers would grow a pair sometimes. I mean, first we had every MMO and it's brother trying to copy WoW, and now we have all the "FPS" games, even ones that are only marginally related(like MWO) trying to copy the "formula for money" and compromising the game design to do it.
HINT: COPYING A GAME WONT DRAW IN ALL THE PLAYERS. WHY WOULD THEY LEAVE THE ORIGINAL GAME TO PLAY YOUR NEW ONE IF IT IS THE SAME ******* THING?
Great games are imagined, designed, and implemented uniquely. You make mega dollars from making something new that nobody else has. Not by copying World of Tanks and pushing gameplay closer to console peasant CoD to try to draw more players. MWO has this amazing IP to draw on, previous titles to learn from, and yet here we are with a dev team that wants a World of Tanks esport full of twitch FPS players.
Maybe I am wrong, maybe they will prove that to me with the balance stuff coming this year supposedly. But, for the first time, ever, in this games history, I am starting to have my doubts it will turn out as a battletech game, a mechwarrior game.
