I would have to say that any player who has a high win/loss ratio in a solo queue actually would be much better than someone with a crap one (if you win/lose consistently, then you can only look at the one thing in common all your games have...). Ergo, a ranking system based on wins vs losses would be a very nice measure of overall skill.

not really as most of the time your put on teams where you lose because they are afk or run around in circles so you lose the game.. Something based on wins would be pointless but a player and I mean PLAYER not PGI would be a better system to rank players for a pleasure to deal with or something like that

I say nay.

Only because that sort of a ranking system would be wholly decided based on how optimized a players' mechs are and how good they are individually as a player (or piggybacking off of their teams), but it doesn't mean that they'd actually make a good leader.

A good leader might actually be rather good at tactics, can think well on the fly, so on and forth. The good leader might actually use the command menu in game, too. That kind of leader is not necessarily going to be the one raking in the highest ranking in the groups.

The other reason why I don't like the system is that there's really enough E-weiner wagging going on in multiplayer games. The last thing I want are people saying dumb stuff like "Well my rank is B and you're only a C+, so your argument is void"

No we need so many more important things in MWO first.

Not really for a ranking system as I think it really isn't necessary. But more numbers sure thing! I would love to know the average damage (could be a percentage, idc) taken before my demise and other stuff like what do I die to?, etc, etc....

That's not really accurate, as the enemy has to deal with those issues over time too. The good players will occasionally be able to carry a bad team, and a bad player will occasionally screw up a good team. This leads to a different win/loss ratio and ELO, and that's what the new ranking system should be based off.

So much this.

I swear to god if PGI spends resources on coding, building, and maintain the database and GUI for something like this while planets remain pretty dots on a map and each and everyone has identical landscape that we can only attack and defend in 2 dimensional set-piece battles...........

We don't need a "like" feature for players.
