When I heard of the new IIC mechs I was excited, so I went to take a look at the designs, however it seems that I've lost some of that interest maybe because they are not new or not as exciting I was expecting them to be, except for the Hunchback IIC, I have the utmost respect for it since the first time I saw it killing my elite pilots with headshots on MechCommander, oh the pain.

Well, so I woke up this morning with this idea to challenge PGI to design new mechs, and I mean new, as in non-canon mechs. Here are my rules:

- Everybody that works at PGI should participate, even the janitor;
- PGI will have 30 days to design the 4 concepts for chassis, one light, one medium, one heavy and an assault, for IS or Clan. I'll leave that to PGI discretion, however PGI must inform us, the community, which one they will choose as soon as the design process begins;
- Those chassis to be designed must follow the gameplay rules from the game MechWarrior Online;
- The progress, who is designing what, and all that kind of information must shared with the community;
- PGI can make a competition between departments, but it's not required.
- Since I don't have access to sales information, I've decided to set the victory condition a goal of 5000 "sales", it doesn't matter if a la carte or the complete pack. A "sale" means an action to support that design, for exemple, assume that PGI delivers 4 chassis designs, one of each weight class, so they will most likely to use their princing model, US$80.00 for IS mechs and US$120.00 for Clan mechs, as well as the a la carte model. No actual money will be involved here, this purchasing action would be qualified as a will to buy that especific chassis or pack. Eventually, PGI can invest some resources to make an actual working model and sell it, but only after the challenge is complete.
- PGI will have until July 30th, 10 AM PDT, to decide if they will participate or not;
- I, illusive_Man_BR, will purchase the Highlander IIC Origins IIC Collection, if PGI agrees to participate on my challenge.

As you can see, I don't really mind if PGI wins or not, I just want them to do something different for a change. I'm curious to see what is PGI's creativity when they are only restrained by their game rules.

If you would like to see this idea grown bigger just reply with I, (name here), support this iniciative. I'm open to feedback, however, I find it irrelevante arguments about canonicity.

I think that non-canon mechs might be interesting if they tried to fill in holes that stock mechs don't fill, but otherwise there's still a crapload of robbits left in BT.

It would help if they would finally ADVANCE THE FREAKING TIMELINE to have access to more of those mechs.

Also, I think it would be okay for them to ignore things like certain mechs not being produced anymore yet still being timeline-friendly. For example, the Toro: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Toro

Who's going to care? The fact that every player in the game can own even a single Battlemech, or even several of them, already breaks the lore (for a lore-friendly game, the majority of players would have to be completely prohibited from having Battlemechs...sounds fun eh? :rolleyes: ).

You've got a period at the end of your link there Fup, might want to fix that.

Non-lore mechs can be cool, but they can also be risky. Granted most of Alex's artwork vastly improves the TRO designs, but he still pays homage. If PGI does this, it has to "look" and "feel" like Battletech/Mechwarrior as established. This isn't Robotech or Gundam Online.

Given how many mechs from Cannon there are that have people actively going "make the X and I'll give you money!", and the number of the people on the forums going "stop making mechs, do feature X so I'll give you money" I'm really not sure what incentive there is for PGI to put the whole of their team onto taking on such an incredibly large gamble (8000+ish working hours, by your behest) given that the only return promised is the $80.00 you have so graciously offered to give them (or rather the profit from an $80.00 sale).

Personally I think you would be more likely to have it happen if you went over to their offices and gave them baggies of whatever the heck it is you are on.

Dude we haven't even had the Clan invasion yet! Why advance the timeline when I haven't even played THIS part of the history yet!?!

Toro is a cool ride!

As much as I would love to see what Alex and Co. can come up with- completely free rein style.
I have to agree that there are still lots of mechs left to explore in the Lore.

Well, I guess I didn't make my point clear. I just want a concept with hardpoints, engine, tonnage and how it would look like. I don't want a fancy concept art, not even a 3D modelling or anything. I just want them to sit on a room, brainstorm for a while and see what comes out of it.

Why, if all you want is the concept? It's not like they'll come up with something actually NEW you know, since we've got 30 years of people designing customized Mechs in the TT game. Hell I created an IS version of the Piranha before the Clans were introducted by FASA, and I'm sure plenty of other people around the planet playing BTech came up with the same design.

We've got a few thousand Mechs in the canon alone to get through still as well, so...

I was introduced to CBT by a guy who created a home version of the XL Engine and ER PPCs... Of course when 3050 hit the shelves we used FASA's instead.
