I have done a little bit of digging and havent quite been able to find an answer to this question (perhaps I have been looking in the wrong places). Regardless my question is if I have several friends that are going to be playing MWO like myself, but if say one person really like kurita and a few like davion and the rest go marik are we still able to play together or would we not be on the same team?

So again would different house players be able to play with each other?

And another quick question again looked a bit but got side tracked but all the lovely mech info, that im wondering are you able to join a fight as a group/lance and if so how many in a group?

They haven't said.

Many things seem borrowed from Multiplayer BattleTech 3025. The way it worked in that game, you picked a faction and you fought for that side.

This game will have lone wolves and mercenaries, none of which has been explained in relation to galactic war. There will probably be a mechanic to let you guys play together for independent games, but in galactic war if you are on different factions you won't be fighting together.

If some friends go lone wolf or merc, then maybe. If someone is on Steiner and someone is on Kurita, they will be fundamentally opposed. Clan invasion time will probably encourage larger alliances, but I suspect this will be a 'soft' alliance where both sides agree not to hit each other and hit Clan planets. At best, forum or VOIP coordination will focus the separate, unconnected attacks on mutually benefical goals.

i would guess they have in game friends lists where you can search for people like some other games of similar style. but thats pure speculation. id guess they have a good friend system since this is a very teamwork specific game.

So now, in the Beta phrase, lets say I've got one friend - am I able to join a match with him? Or do I need a full list of 8 friends before I can make sure we end up on the same side?

you can play with 1,2,3 friends garunted (bad spelling)
just click the social button (bottom right)
click the group tab
create the group
then go to your friends list, left click your friend. and invite to group

the launch button gets replaced by a ready button
then when everyone is ready in social-> group -> group options -> launch group.

It seems to me like I need either 4 or 8 people to launch my game. Is that correct? I thought I could play with a friend. I only have one friend.

It is UP TO 4 and 8, so valid amounts to launch are 1,2,3,4 and 8. This is because the smaller team gets thrown in any match and to get full team vs team warfare, you need a full drop of 8 people to match against another full drop of 8 people. You can play with one or two friends just fine, but playing with five friends is not so easy.

This will be fixed eventually when the matchmaking system improves.

thanks for your explanation!! Without you guys us noobs would be a little lost!
Finding my feet and bloody love the game.
It does need a lot more maps!
I think they should always let noobs play for free. its has a fan club following and I had the MW2 in early 1993 ish.
Loved in and all the others after. Letting noobs play free means great fun for the advanced players.

I hope this noob play free stays as good cannon foder!!

If you want to meet/drop with fellow Mariks then check out house-marik.net to get the teamspeak info. Lots of great guys and with over 800 registered members there is always someone on to group up with.

Or there are plenty of mercenary groups recruiting. Check the Outreach section of the forums.

Then there are the No Guts No Galaxy teamspeak, as well as the unofficial Comstar servers.

Lots of ways to make friends and have people to drop with.

I Think he means that the best way to "make friends" in this game is to do it out-of-game, such as on the forums here. Or, as a Marik player, you can check out www.house-marik.net and we have a dozen units and almost 1000 players that play this game so you can find groups very easily with us.

I don't have an affiliation right now because there's no CW. The OP does raise some questions, though. Here's a few that came to mind: Once CW goes live, will those who have already chosen a House be able to change that during an initial grace period? Also, going off the OP's situation, if the friends could not group together due to their affiliations, could they change House to be able to drop together? Would you be able to change your allegiance on a whim like this? Couldn't this be used to game the system and allow people to mess with the planet conquest meta-game by having members switch affiliations and purposely lose? Would they make you pay to do it? So many questions that, at this point, can only be answered by speculation and best guesses based on what little CW information we have.

Currently you can play together. When/if Clan wars type battle ever comes into the game, it would stand to reason that you would have to be part of the same house to play that game mode together. PGI has not stated to my knowledge much, if any information regarding this so my answers are purely speculation.

As for your second question You can currently join as a 4 or 8 man group. 4 man group is anything 2-4 players. 8 man HAS to have 8 people to launch as you are paired against another 8 man group. As for clan wars, who knows ?
