I'm not sure if this is happening for others, but I'm getting a crash relatively constant where the MWO will crash to the desktop, but then the desktop will go unresponsive and the system will restart.

This has occurred 4 or 5 times since this last patch came out.

This only occurs when I'm in battle. It hasn't happened anywhere else in the game. Sometimes it happens right as the match starts and I first get to control the mech and sometimes it happens in the heat of battle.

I'm playing on a Aorus x7v2 with SLI enabled.
Specs:

Core i7 4860HQ
16 GB RAM
2x nVidia Geforce 860m
2560x1080 (HDMI)
Windows 8.1

It was installed on a standard HDD, but I'm uninstalling and reinstalling the game onto my SSDs to see if this makes any difference.

The whole system rebooting is a bad sign.
MWO might be triggering it but the cause is probably something seriously wrong with you PC.
Installing it on another drive is a good start at eliminating failure-sources.

Yeah. It just happened again. This time I wasn't in battle. I was queuing for a faction fight.

I'm going to downgrade the graphics and see if that helps. I also need to google whether anyone is having a restart issue with their Aorus x7.

Well, I backed it down to DX9 and it worked pretty well for a while before locking up my system. I'm wondering if it's an overheating issue.

This time I was almost done with a Faction campaign. My team was definitely going to win. I have no idea if I get my loyalty points when this happens.

If it regularly happens after you have been playing for a while, overheating is a defiante possibility.
Try cleaning out your case and all the fans/cooling blocks, dust can really screw up heat-efficiency.
If that doesn't help, you might want to try and pin down what exactly is overheating. In case it's both your CPU and graphics card it might be a failing power suppply unit and you'll have to replace it.
