This is pretty much the worst case of a hero pandering to the Current Meta I've ever seen.
I sure would laugh hard if they broke the laser vomit meta with the next rebalance pass. So hard.

To be fair, this is actually a totally canon hero mech with a stock config.

Russ said it's not getting many energy quirks, that means it will be like a Grasshopper firepower wise but with even less going for it.

The "Top dog" is an incredibly boring and generic name.
Also, not a big fan of the paint job.

I get that, and that's good. It just absolutely feels like pandering to the current meta, and in a totally redundant way. How is this really anything other than a TDR-5SS with one extra energy hardpoint? (OMG PAY TO WIN!)

After all, remember how awesome the TDR-5SS was before it got quirked... Such an awesome mech, that everyone loved.

Best thing to do now is to just be quiet and nod when people say "But it's a canon mech. It just happens to be tailor-made for the current meta" and "It's not P2W because the Timber Wolf is better anyway."
And keep the popcorn ready for next week.

Right now I am thinking 5SS > 9SE >= Tallman > 5S > 9S. Agree?

So quirk it with MG ROF or range lol
Still find it amusing the so called hero mechs are not to be found in serious CW matches

Despite the fact that you can see it coming from miles away.

That's our fault. Correct or not, from day one we (that is, the vocal majority of forumers) have screamed bloody murder at any hint that Hero mechs could be pay 2 win, so PGI has consistently released Hero mechs with fewer hard points than their contemporaries, generally without ECM, etc.
We asked, and PGI delivered.

and to be fair, they had plenty other noteworthy pilots to choose from. Odd that they choose the laservomit special in the middle of laservomit meta.....hmmmmm?

I have no idea if cooldown or laser duration quirks will be present. My gut tells me no. Most likely no range buffs either which is fine since I fight under 300 meters mostly.

However, I'll concede that there aren't many mechs without heroes, we've already got a Medium hero being released, and apparently this is the only time line appropriate Thud canon hero...
Still, I find peoples sudden appreciation for Canon hero mechs suspect given the situation.
