Every aspect of this game is overly complicated.

What we don't need:

13 or whatever territories to a planet
those little triangles that are supposed to tell you something
the queue list that is 1 through 11 and you need 12 people
the gates on the maps with the generators with the other generators protecting the main generator
defending by counter attacking or attacking by defending
Planet tagging.
Etc... (Insert your confusion here)

The simple fun way:
Each planet is designated one of the however many maps we have. There is a load bar for each planet 0 through 100. If the attackers get 51% of that load bar (calculated by 1% increase for ghost drop 10% for PC victory) at the time of Ceasefire, the planet switches control from one faction to another. If your faction owns the planet, you will be on defense when deploying. If you are attacking a planet your faction doesn't own, your on offense. Use matchmaking maps and no drop ships, just 12v12 and a random game mode, skirmish, assult or conquest. The unit with the most or in case of a tie, last win get's the planet's tag.

You don't need all the triangles, arrows and bars that look like a boom box equalizer. Just need a bar for planet control 0-100%, a bar 0-12 indicating how many are in queue, a number somewhere showing how many are currently battling on the planet and finally the planet's unit tag. That's it.
