With having to pick a Faction, players are opening second MechWarrior accounts and chosing an IS side on one, and a Clan side on the other so they can play with their friends in multiple clans/factions.

I have Clan and IS mechs on one account, and personally want to keep one instead of getting a second one.

What do you guys think about multiple profiles on one account? Something where you could switch back and forth between a Clan-profile and an IS profile to allow playing CW with two groups of friends, and opening the ability to play Clan or IS (outside of just pugging it)?

Would this be a good or bad idea, and why?

I would love this, as my two favorite factions are Clan Ghost Bear and House Liao. Rather obviously, I chose Ghost Bear.

But it is a shame that all of my Inner Sphere mechs and Inner Sphere hero mechs are going to waste, and this makes me disinclined to buy anything more with the Inner Sphere- normally I would have jumped at the Resistance pack (contains 2 of my favorite mechs) and tossed PGI my wallet, but I have chosen not to since I cannot use the stuff in CW.

I would support a "multiple profile" deal for Community Warfare, but there would obviously have to be some restrictions. I would say if you play on one side for a day, you cannot play as the other side for 1-2 days. OR, make it to where you cannot fight for planets that are being fought over by your two sides.
-Example, if I chose Ghost Bear and FRR, I can attack FRR as Ghost Bear, but I could not defend against Ghost Bear attacks or attack their worlds as FRR. I could happily push my way into Steiner space as FRR
--Or if I chose Ghost Bear and Liao, there would not be any issues whatsoever (unless the Clans take terra, which we will)

Edit: I am also disinclined to get an alternate account to play as Inner Sphere, as I have a lot of real-world money tied up in mechbays and heros and paints

I got the resistance pack, but am running Clan in CW. That basically means I'll have to chose between pug drops and not using the mechs I will receive.... which sucks. Should have gotten them on a different account...

Multiple profiles would be AMAZING. I've spent too much money on this account to start over on a new one.

Well, it'd give me a reason to actually get some clan mechs, right now I have absolutely zero reason to. Of course I barely have the CBills to buy and fit a single clan assault, but that's beside the point.

I honestly would run two accounts in a heartbeat if there was a way to transfer all my IS or Clan mechs over to it.

Waste of time, if I wanted to play clans I would. But I don't, I have no desire to open another account just to play cheese mechs that I don't even like. There should never be an option to do what you're suggesting in my opinion. No faction swapping on one account.

So, you'd like your choice to have no consequences? No trade offs?

I've wanted, and asked for, multiple pilot profiles since Closed Beta, but I don't think it's coming any time soon. PGI seems content to use the contract system to allow for swapping your tech base.

I run a Clan alt to play with Clan tech. My main is pure IS. I took permanent contracts on both.

I see the point. I play FRR, but made some friends in Smoke Jag.

There have been serval times where I've contemplated creating a second account so I can CW drop with my Smoke Jags friends when there's no FRR guys online.

The only problem is, this is very difficult to program. The simplest solution I came up with is, you must choose which faction you will be fighting for when you log in. And you must restart your client to change the faction.

A 2nd problem I see is, if you are part of a unit on both sides, can the other side see you under the unit tab if you are logged in but for the opposing side?

SCENARIO: I have log in as FRR. I belong to a unit in both the FRR and the Smoke Jaguars. Can my Smoke Jaguar unit see me?

I like this idea a lot. I'd probably spend more money if this was an option. But, I see many scenarios where this simply causes a pain.

Lets see in SWTOR I have 12 Toons on one account

In Neverwinter I have 8 toons on one account.

Here I have 5 Toons all on separate accounts and I can't remember the passwords for two of them!

Two accounts are fine.. That way, your Clan or IS buddies have no knowledge of eachother, and can't make you "pick" every time there's a challenge, and call you a traitor if you don't pick them..

Its like having a mistress... adds some small measure of excitement to the lives of all the non-lifers out there.

And NO, i don't have multiple accounts..

Prove me wrong..
