I'm just curious as to what the default starting mech. will be. I know what mine will be but what will the starter for F2P people will be.

I tried searches so if I missed sorry, so no need to flame. ;)

They'll probably just hand you a bunch of c-bills and let you buy your own.

I'd put my C-bills on a non-founder varient of the Jenner... but that's just my bet...idk

I'd like to see armor vehicles added...I know we won't but that way you can start ppl out on a hover bike ...lol of course that would probably just turn new players to the genre away... lol

I was just talking about this with friends at work today. I can see several options here, including us being able to select or purchase a mech that matches the role we chose to start in, or a completely different approach where you get a starter mech of their choice and we must work our way up to some other mech. I'm dying to find out the details.

There will be one on freebie from each class available. You can choose ONE. Pick your freebie and start shooting. Devs said this a while back, cant find the exact post.

Edit: A safe assumption would be that they will mirror the founders mech (Jenner, Hunchy, Cat, and Atlas) but without the earnings boost and fancy different skin. This hasn't been confirmed to my knowledge, but would make great sense.

Last I saw on this subject they stated you'd be allowed to choose 1 of 4 mechs. Specifically 1 of each weight class (light, medium, heavy, assault).

I assume you can choose 1 of any in each but it might be limited to 4 such as for example:

You can choose between:
1 - Raven
2 - Centurion
3 - Catapult
4 - Atlas

Or it could be you can choose any of the mechs in each weight class but can only unlock 1. We'll just have to wait and see though.

Makes perfect sense, though I PITY THE FOOL who jumps straight into the Atlas especially if they are new to this genre... lol I'm assuming that assaults will be much more costly to operate...

Hrm. Anyone notice that the atlas looks like an NFL football player?

And how the urbie looks like a football on legs?

And the snap, Atlas back to kick...

Nice.

Hopefully they don't outright limit us to 4 choices of mech (1 from each weight class) and we can choose freely.

This sounds right and proper to me.

I've gotten the impression it is 1 mech and you can choose from a total of 4 starter mechs with 1 in each weight class. As for the specific mechs I haven't seen which ones. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they are different from the founder mechs since they also mentioned the founder mechs replace the prime variants. So unless this game is letting you have 2 essentially identical mechs it would seem better/smarter if the non founder mechs were a different batch of mechs.

They haven't yet officially said how a player will start out. But you will start with the ability to pilot "something". In other words you will never find yourself with nothing to pilot and no way to get something to pilot. They will not allow you to start off nor ever become screwed.(Aka no Mech and no money to buy one, and no way to get money without a Mech to pilot) They will probably just let you pick one to start out with or just pick one for you as a starting Mech. If players are allowed to pick their own, I hope they are limited to Medium and Heavies, else the game will be flooded with Atlas newbs. Every single newb kid that signs up and DLs the game will roll an Atlas as his first Mech and it'll make the Mech and people that actually use it effectively look bad. Thus I want newbs to start with Mediums. Throw them in a Centurion. That's suppose to be a common "worker bee" Mech anyway.

This isn't exactly right, a post I read this morning said that you will be able to choose 1 mech from any weight class depending on what role you wish to play.

If I can go back and find the post I'll edit this and add the quote

Let me try and find the quote, cause they did mention it earlier today.

Ok Riddle me this, If I can play on the 7th what will I have to pilot if not a Mech. In a F2P system will I not get at least one Vehicle to start with? Ok thinking I will go looking about to see what I can find. If any one can answer this faster than I post. I will be back...

You will have access to mech's

We will be detailing this to the community fairly soon, just exactly how the new player starts out in MWO

That quote did not answer any questions. I already said you'd have access to SOMETHING, just not whether you'd get to pick your own or have it picked for you. We will have to wait for their details to get all the answers.

Please let it be different from the Founder's mechs. Don't want doubles. B)

Yes, but it was the latest dev-post on this topic I could find. We'll all have to wait for the announcement.
