MWO-Family-Work Balance – Monthly Schedule

The recent run of events have, in totality, been engaging, rewarding, and importantly, innovative. And Russ’s monthly announcement of impending updates has been useful.

But often, because notice of an event is given only the day before, there is not much reaction time.

The most recent event where a pre-event notice (CW and HEROs series of events) was put out demonstrates the usefulness of a SCHEDULE and pre-empting expectations.

We are all BUSY people with Work, Family, (Other Games) commitments to balance. Having a schedule would allow us to better BALANCE our time, allow independents to better schedule their events, the benefits are numerous. E.g. Early notification of a “Like a Champion” event would be early-warning for a potential 80-Game (with 40 wins) Grind. Dinner dates can be re-adjusted, appointments postponed, more participation can be expected

Even better would be if the schedule was FIXED. E.g. First two weeks are PUG-friendly. 3rd week is CW-heavy. 4th week is the rest week.

I can understand though if events are not exactly planned out that early in advance (I thought one month should be realistic?). And I’m certainly not advocating pre-warning of sales (though I’m hopeful) as this may scope players’ monetary behavior.

TL:DR Hence I would suggest that along with the monthly updates on features that would be on-coming, the SCHEDULE OF EVENTS that would happen in that month would also be helpful.

PGI can draw in even more people per event if they have "personal challege" rewards in addition to the event theme.

This monthly schedule idea would be a great step. Sounds like a nice thing for a Community Manager to do, and I'm always a fan of patterns, systems, and consistency. I suspect a lot of mech fans are.

This could, eventually, dove-tail nicely into expanded community activities like a PGI-managed weekly Solaris league or some kind of weekly CW challenges or "campaigns" that happen on a regular rotation.

Definitely a fan of advance warning. Don't need every last detail, but wouldn't say no, but just some warning. The heads up about the Hero Mech sale weekends is a pretty good example of this.

I'm into this. I've just been lucky recently with challenges in my real life lining up with MWO challenges that are not that appealing to me... But if there was a schedule letting me know the type of upcoming challenge, yes, I could see myself opening up or making time for it. I can't see drawbacks for me, personally with this suggestion, but perhaps PGI may foresee a drop in participation outside of stated events? However, I also think the new week-long span of their challenges has reinvigorated the population and reduced burnout, so end result of all of my overthinking is: thumbs up, lets go with it.

Personal challenges are very rewarding to players, and I strongly believe that they bring the biggest crowds.

I very much enjoyed some of the recent events, but not so much the events targeted at the small player groups, such as the founders, the phoenix, the hero mechs... those, while butt-kissing to the paying customers, did nothing for the remaining 90% of the players.

Instead, I suggest posting challenges targeting individual players skill and prowess, Unit leadership and teamwork, and faction pride.

Also, these events need to be "lore-realistic" and "immersive"... So don't make a hero-mech leaderboard, make a "save the stranded scientists" challedge or "claim the mech factory" challendge...

Here's my top 5 challenges so far..

5) Clan Invasion event
4) Looking for group
3) Hardcore unit event
2) Prove your alligeance
1) Battle of Tukayyid

Note that the Battle of Tukayyid was one of the most exciting things I'v ever done in any Mechwarrior game. Very proud of that one.
