I name mine after King of the Hill characters. My buddy names his after Game of Thrones characters. I was curious to know what other themes or names people might go with for their mechs, and I'm bored as hell so there's that.

I named the first Shadow Hawk I bought as Dougram, but that was when I still had the original weapons load.

I later bought the Mastery pack and sold that one and started moving more towards the meta builds.

All my mechs have the same theme. And it's utterly boring.

4-6 Character "license plate style" name that shoudl reflect its build. IE: Brwlr, Pptrt, etc
Engine Code: IE: 280S, 300X
A tilde if it has weapon modules

Utterly boring. But at least I know where all my engines are.

I, with a few exceptions, name my 'mechs after RPG classes/professions.
Like "Paladin", "Rogue", etc.

May be boring but it definitely makes sense. I try to "sort of" do that with my KotH names. Hank is my D-DC, and Boomhower is my TDK for example. Try to fit what I think that character would pilot lol. Sometimes it doesn't work, my Heavy Metal is Peggy.

Except I have more of one variant - then they get Roles not Themes.

Actually yes, any mech variant that I actually use in matches has the word "jogga" in its name.

Why? It's just a meme between me and my friend.

Each chassis has its own theme, some sensible, some bizarre.

For example, my Jenners are: Brownie, Pixie, Sprite, Puck, Hob, Nixie and Gremlin and my Thunderbolts are Angus, Malcolm, Young, Bon and Brian. With 218 mechs, you can't have just one theme.

I name mine after Star Control races - Shofixti, Androsynth, Doog, Daktaklakpak, Melnorme, Yehat, Pkunk, Kohrah, etc...

I don't normally name mechs by theme, but I might have an exception.

The concept art for the Crab makes the torso and cockpit look like an old WWII German fighter plane IMO.

To be funny, I was going to name each one after a Hogan's Hero character.

my clan w1 mwchs are named after a the Tom&Jerry cartoons Kit Fox "Jerry", Mad Cat "Tom" and the Dire is Spike
some others are named after some k1 legends like my CTF1x "Ray" (after the K1 legend Ray Sefo or actor legends like Bud spencer,, Clint Eastwood and so on- or Charakters like Johny depp in Fear and loathing Las Vegas

When i name a mech there is always a theme.

Sometimes it follows the camo, my BLR-1D is Desert Storm because it has a tan camo and balistic.

Sometimes the role i envision the mech doing, My TBT-7M is called FLANKER because he has the lrm, speed and mean(tag+ML) to do his thing aside fro mthe group but never far.

Sometimes it's the mech shape, one of my Atlas is called BUFF, more after the B52 nickname than the size of it's muscle.

This one time i was drinking Trois Pistoles and decided to buy myself a spider and it was named Trois Pistoles =)

Some of my mech never earned a name, not nessessarily because they are not good but because i could not attach a theme to it.

lol, yeah im starting to run out of KotH names. My next mech might have to be called Chuck Mangione.

Ancient history troop types. Unfortunately, I am running low... The clans are usually later in history. My two chickens are Varangian and Landsknecht, and the Nova is Galloglaich

The spiders are Peltast, Krypteia (not really a military unit, but fitting for ECM), and Agrianes
Firestarters are Saggitarius, Toxotai, and Skiritai
Locust is Psiloi, Commando is Velite
Urbies are Thorakitai and Thereuphoroi

With the Meds I move up in heaviness: Shadowhawk is Principe, Vindicators are Hastati and Comitatenses, and the BJs are Lanciarius and Scutarius.

My one 'phract is aptly named Kataphraktoi. I had a second named Klibanarius but eventually sold it.
The Victor is of course Triarius
