PPC nipples has been a running joke for months, "just wait till the awesome gets PPC nipples", a resigned expectation of the kind of quality you can expect from PGI's makeovers. And with everyone doubting them, saying they'd never get it right... PGI went ahead and met everyone's expectations of a minimally viable product, the "legomech" we'd been joking about for ages.

They do so well with the new 'mechs. Why do they keep failing the old ones?

Because if they old ones look good. Thats less incentive to sell new shiny ones.

On the plus side, it seems that at least some of the missile launchers on the Awesome are now high-mounted, so the huge, cardboard box, sagging gut launchers may be a thing of the past. Oddly, though, it seems at least one variant (9M, I guess) has a launcher texture on the left arm shoulder armor plate... as in the missiles somehow fire out of the armor plate vs. being a box on the plate. I don't have that variant - just going from a screenshot in another thread - but it looks odd.

That was a prediction that occurred long ago.

Now that we actually got to reap the benefits of the joke, it only continues to reinforce the predictable nature of those in charge.

It's always fascinating.

The Awesome's PPCs are fine, and the stacked torso hardpoints look really good from the sides.

It gets worse...

Take any Awesome with 2 energy weapons in the torsos. See where they put the 2nd one? They LOWERED it?! Now, it hangs at the bottom of the torso, much like the Atlas's autocannon.

So, let's review:

Positives:
+ Got rid of the sagging gut, cardboard box missile launchers

Negatives;
- Assorted ugliness introduced via Lego-Mechs, including PPC nipples.
- Insane scattering of missile launchers all over the place. The entire right half of the 8V is now somehow a rocket launcher, the 9M's left arm is a crazy mix of launchers, including a split one and one that somehow fires missiles from the left shoulder armor plate.
- LOWERING of the mech's direct fire weapons... the one, flippin' easy thing they could have done to improve the mech's viability, and nooooo... they do the exact opposite. Come ON!
