even before the quirks there were people who thought the Wolverine was a great Mech however I personally have not been able to get on with them, I am not sure why but for Mediums I much prefer the Griffin and Hunchback.
just because I do not love the Wolverine does not mean you wont, I know some players who class the Wolverine as their best Mech.

And yes, so far two have earned Upgrades. I'm waffling between endosteel and XL engine for the 7k, but the performance of the three medium pulse, three srm 6's definately deserves something. The 6R however has shown lackluster performance for me, and will need to be reconfigured. At this rate it'll never get any extra cash pumped inna it.

There really is no great urgency to get Hunchbacks if you are happy with Enforcers.

I can use all the 55 tonners. Of them, my favorite is the Wolverine with the Kintaro and Griffin both vying for a tight second place. Stormcrow takes third and Shadowhawks are kinda at the bottom of my barrel.
This is my Wolverine. It is the 6K and is sporting LBX + twin MGs + 2 lasers + Streaks.

Screen is of me in action (left, jumping). Shot taken by Lordred. Explosions are from my weapons fire.
My overall favorite model is the 7K, which before quirks was the best of the Wolverines. As such it got the least quirks, but nonetheless it is fantastic.

It's funny, in regards to this I know someone who was the opposite in the sense that he likes the Wolverine but absolutely abhorred the Griffin. I myself had great success with both in MWO before quirks.

Meh, it isn't a job, it's a hobby. If you can swing it go out and snag whichever chassis strikes your fancy.

I impulse purchased a second BJ-1X awhile back.

RIP WUBVERINE...WEAPON X, WUB FIST OF GOD
Flew too close to the sun and PGI removed its Adamantium Wubs.
Good chassis, One great mech (Large Lazor Fist), one decent SRM brawler, one...eh, 'fun' AC5 mech.
IMO i like how they look and lazor-fisting is good.

Ah, your "wait....what" isn't on having the wrong designation, it was the weapons.

Seen that screenshot didn't you? It performs pretty phenomenal. Eternally cold even on hot maps (will never overheat, ever. Thus I can keep up constant fire. Have lots of ammo. Twisting doesn't really work on me -- my damage isn't pinpoint anyway. A lot of the 'advanced' or 'high skill' brawling tactics cannot work on me, as they aren't developed to fight my style of combat (I mean who else is crazy enough to build around DPS rather than high alpha?).

A number of my mechs and builds are sort of "What the..." 'Mechs. From my Heavy Metal Commander to my Flamer Stalker, you're bound to laugh when you see them, and need new pants when you face them.
(Wrong form of 'your'. Huh. Know you're tired when...)

Pretty much mirrors my own experience. I initally had no attraction to Wolverines whatsoever. Their hardpoints didn't seem to offer anything that couldn't be found on other 'Mechs of the same weight, and their in-game model was nowhere near as cool as that of the Griffin, which was released at the same time.
That being said, I did eventually succumb to the forum posts of multiple other users. Once I did so(i.e., bought some Wolvies), I was very satisfied with the results. Each variant offers unique build options, although they all have the same basic DPS (as opposed to burst-damage) mentality. Surprisingly agile, considering how fat the in-game model looks.
Ignore Koniving's stated build, he's silly
