It's the only way to play sims or fps games. I couldn't get into archage because they do not have inverted options, silly koreans..

I used to be inverted everything. Mouse, keyboard, Xbox, etc. it didn't matter. Up was always down, and down was always up. The only exception was on my desktop.

When I started playing SOCOM II on PS2 competitively, I found inverted shooter controls to be counter-intuitive (despite feeling second nature), so I spend a couple weeks forcing myself to get adapted to regular controls.

It was painful. You don't just switch back after nearly a decade of playing inverted, but after going through a confusing 2-3 weeks being painfully confused at times (especially with reflexive actions) I finally got the hang of standard controls.

The only times I ever use inverted is when using a joystick for flight sims, which is less "inverted," as it is "normal flight control behavior."

Yep, always inverted. Didn't realize this marks me as an old school gamer, I thought it was just a personal preference thing.

What marks you as an old school gamer is that you call that standard, and the new FPS-style mouse-oriented control scheme inverted.

I've adjusted over time, so it now depends on the game. I now use (what I call) inverted for FPS-style games and (what I call) standard for everything else. I still get confused by newer games that reverse the definitions until I can play a couple of test games and get it set up correctly.

Wow, what great memories! Descent was a blast as were the Original MW games (2, Mercs, Pirate Moon, etc) and inverted is the only way I can play and I do think its an age thing. I've met more old school gamers who play inverted and the minute my daughter (a Millenial) gets on the machine, she restores the Y-axis...

I cut my teeth on the mechwarrior franchise and have used an inverted mouse configuration for all sims ever since, including FPS games. I feel like if I'm not adding that extra depth I lose immersion, and may as well be playing solitaire or some other point-and-click game.
