Cooee there, fellow MechWarriors and Clans people alike, I know that there has been a few forum threads on the build of the Raven RVN-4X a number of times, but I have not been able to find any real good build suggestions/ideas about what a good set up might be for one.
I already have a mastered Raven RVN-3L and now am just looking for that last 19,000 odd experience points to have the Raven RVN-4X unlock the Master tier, but for the life of me, I have no idea what weapons I should put on it to make it any worthwhile.
I have decided to remove all but two (2) of the jump jets it has (since I do not need a full 'deck' of them so to speak (actually, I rarely use jump jets, save on my Vindicator 1AA, and the current loadout of my 4X is 2x medium lasers and 1x SRM 6 plus an AMS system, so that makes it a good 'Mech to get up and personal with enemy 'Mechs, but I decided to try out the 4X because I wanted to get into closerange fighting instead of long range support, like all of my other 'Mechs, so I was wondering if anyone knew a good build for the 4X that they have found works well for them?
Mostly, I am an energy kind of bloke (I do not like ballistic weapons because some of the maps lag me out (such The Mining Complex, River City (both day and night), but i recognise that ballistic weapons can be very useful, though they are not my cup of tea.
And since I just bought the 4X (again - the first time was just so I could finish mastering the master tier of my Raven 3L) it does not have double heat sink (although I am working on it right now - just 1 million c-bills to go *sigh* but it has currently got endo steel and ferro fibrous armour on it, so once i am able to upgrade the heat sinks on my 4X, is there any good build that anyone can recommend for the 4X, since I find that I am dying within 10 minutes of a drop starting (Ithis is also the first time I am using SRMS, as I have not much practice with them - I like the LRM systems much better, but i do not like the SSRMs at all (all I can say, despite how good they ar, they just do not suit my playing style, since you have to lock onto a target with them, much the same way you have to with LRMS.
So, again, I am more of a long-range fighter, but have decided to mix it up a bit in my game style by trying out my hand at close-range fighting/brawling) so if anyone has any suggestions on what would be good or, even better, if you own a Raven 4X, could you tell me if you have found it a worthwhile 'Mech to fight with?
Thank you kindly in advance, everyone,
Leif tanner.

Yes. With quirks it's good and fun. XL255, 1JJ, 2LPL (nearly 500M range even without modules and extremely short burn.

Say hello to my little friend
This is my 4x. I typically get 250-300 damage, most of which comes in 20 point chunks to the enemy's CT. Yes it runs SHS, you aren't gonna overheat. Yes it's way slower than most light mechs run it as a support mech. Yes it doesn't have JJ. Yes it only has 21 shots you won't need more if you pick your shots well.
No one focuses the AC20 raven when you're with a heavy or assault mech. This often proves to be a fatal mistake.

Thanks all, for the suggestions. I took at look at the links you all provided, but somehow, none of them really seem to fit my play style, but I will keep going and try a few different combinations until I find the right one. If not, then I might just give up on the 4X and start working on a heavy class 'Mech (since I already have 4 medium Mechs and 1 light class already mastered.:-)

Here's what I run, just a take a on the classic snipey bird but taking advantage of those things the 4X gets that are unique to it.

You got me to thinking and playing around with the builder. I know i'm gonna give um a shot
XL-265, Endo/FF, 2 JJ's, 2 ML's , LRM15 2.5 tons +BAP. Sort of a fast flanker LRM/spotter/scout. (15% missile cool down quirk)
XL-265, Endo/FF, dual JJ's, Dual ML's, AC-5 with 3 tons, Longer ranged sniper style, gains a bit more DP's from lasers up close. (+30% Ballistic range quirk)
mech will run at 134KPH at tweak, and a pair of JJ's will allow it to fly a little bit. the AC-5 build, is really a lot like my cicada 3m build, though a couple less lasers, and it has ecm, but it is very solid. If you are good with an ac-5 this could be the one to try.

I'd do something like this.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...95d964a88e9cbe4
2xLPL, XL255 engine. I like 255s for the non-3L and Huggin type Ravens. My 3L usually runs a 285, and max 300 on the Huggin. Will instantly get twice as good when you get c-bills for DHS, won't require any other changes.
You can swap for 2xERLL if you like, and have some tons left over for bigger engine or whatever. You'd have 4 tons and 12 open slots, even with Endo/FF. Lots of room to customize.
