15 damage C-ERPPCs were a nightmare but rather than nerf them into total oblivion they do 10 damage and 5 splash. So if you hit someone in the left leg, you do 10 damage to the left leg and 5 damage to the left torso.

If you hit a torso it will spread to the next two adjacent components, so if it is a CT hit, you do 2.5 damage to the left and right torso; if you hit the left torso, you do 2.5 to the left arm and CT.

That about sums it up. The reason C-ERPPCs were adjusted like this is because when the clan mechs originally dropped in the game the double PPC double gauss Dire Wolf took the game balance and swept it under the rug. After the patch that changed 5 damage to splash damage they've been that way ever since.

It does 10 dmg to the component you hit & 2.5 dmg to adjacent components. It's a 'balancing' measure implemented after the Clans dropped and they had 15 ppfld weapons that synced perfectly with Clan gauss. They couldn't justify erasing 5 pts of dmg off the weapon, so they made it 'splash' the add'l 5pts.

*edit - ninja'd. Stupid replying on a phone..

The last 5 damage was broken up for balance... the tabletop CERPPC does 15 damage for 6 tons and the same heat as IS ERPPC, which costs one ton and one slot more and does only 10 damage. It was pretty much the most egregious case of Clantech outright obsoleting its IS equivalent, and permitted 60-point PPFLD combos (2xCGauss+2xCERPPC) on Dires and Warhawks until PGI made the change. Before quirks, that was enough to one-shot many IS heavies.

The gun was just too damn good.

Maybe, and the poor Gauss Rifle is nerfed almost every other major patch it seems because it's just good! Give it some time and PGI will add ghost heat if you fire more than 1 at a time!

Anyway, the C-ER PPC should really have 12-13 damage. That'd be a LOT better than the current splash mechanic we have where damage is most often wasted or lost. Velocity increases for the entire PPC family would be nice, too.

so when it says 10 dmg in game does that mean it does a total of 10 dmg

with X dmg to adjacent components and X dmg to targeted component?

Yes. If you shoot the target mech's side torso, the center torso will take 2.5 damage and the arm will take 2.5 damage. If you shoot at the arm, then the side torso takes 2.5 damage and the rest is lost.

No. It does 15 damage total- 10 to the targeted component, and 2.5 each to two adjacent components.

nope, only if you hit an Arm or Leg you will get only 2.5 splash damage,

No. It does a total of 15 damage within its optimal range, but only 10 of it is directly on the component you shot. The other 5 of the 5 goes elsewhere.

Half of the 2.5 spread damage is reflected back to the main impact section, if the CERPPC splash damage had hit a destroyed section. Which means if you hit a mech with both STs gone, right in the CT, you will deal 12.5 damage on the CT, instead of 10.

You sure the CT wouldn't get 1 extra damage?
40% of 2.5
