In light of the ECM-balancng announcement in the Command Chair, I have seen a renewal of complaints that ECM combines Angel ECM with Null Sig.

Stop it. Please.

Null sig and Stealth Armor block thermal emissions, which means it interferes with your ability to locate Mechs using thermal vision. PGI's version of ECM never did this, it will never do this.

Yes, the game's version of "Guardian ECM" is actually Angel ECM. But, please, stop saying that it's also Null Sig.

From Sarna:
"the Null Signature System cloaked their heat output and electronic emissions. While the system is engaged, the 'Mech is more difficult to track at anything other than short range"

Sounds about right.

What do you think the Magic Jesus Box does to prevent locks? Send out lots of interference that doesn't affect their allies within 180M, but also prevents locks at 300-1000+M?

I think it's safe to say they block their signature.

I'd simply explore changing how missiles lock at this point.

I'd rather see missiles follow the crosshair / reticle over keeping the current lock system anyway.

Indirect Locks can also see significant tweaks, so that LRMs are more useful in more situations and having Locks be harder but possibly be fire and forget too.

Streaks should then only see locks as a measure to save ammo and I'd like to see ripple fire patterns added to all missile weapons too, since if they can follow where the player aims, they should then become deadlier and more ammo efficient too for more mechs.

At his point I guess we can drop all the stats presented in Battletech.

I don't care if the TT loreheads call it Angel, Guardian, Stealth armour or Null Sig. It's actually none of these things. In reality, ECM has been replaced by ECM-P. The PGI variant. And the only thing that matters to me is whether or not they can take Jesus out of the Magic Jesus Box, so it doesn't have such a huge impact on the game.

Ideally, we would have Angel and Guardian ECM as separate pieces of equipment. But that's not a dealbreaker for me. A dealbreaker is a poor implementation of ECM which is so powerful that you're basically an idiot if you bring a Hellbringer, Arctic Cheetah or Shadow Cat without the magic ECM omnipod.

I have this theory that they did it to reduce the LRM rain. Since no one likes to be pummeled helplessly. Personally I think ECM should just cause LRMs to scatter farther. Instead of being a hard counter. But this is after they improved the flight path on missiles. Used to be cover about your height was enough. Now it has to be higher than you by certain margin. Still it would be nice to be able to mix LRMs into a build without wondering if it will be a paperweight.

LRM's also never tracked in TT like they do in MWO. The way they behave now should at least require a NARC beacon.
Probably the best solution has been to have ECM work on the carrying unit like it does now, and just slow locks on covered units.

Oh and buff AMS against the cluster shots of I.S. style LRMs.

I like to imagine stealth armor is more like active camouflage

Stealth Armour and Null Sig are functionally identical (SA costing more crit slots, NSS being LosTech).

That is the active camo

the least they could do is just drop the bubble effect.

would also like locks on a ecm mech (only with a very long lock time)

And I would like LRM's to not behave like Streak SRMs. Actually they're better because they can arc up over terrain, and you can dumb fire them if you want.

You can't arc over terrain and dumb-fire them. If you dumb-fire them, they will hit the near-side of the obstruction you're aiming at.

Just for clarification.

There's a comma to separate the two statements. Should I make it a semicolon? Probably. :/

As what would you like to let them behave? If you remove the locks they will be even more worthless

They can behave similar to the LBX. They can follow the mouse cursor. They can track when NARCd or TAGd. It took me less than 10seconds to think of ideas.

I dunno, the Magic Jesus Box will live on, despite a potential incoming nerf (which is kinda minimal, but more deathball approved).

I doubt we'll convince "the reason for the great mech depression" to do real work on ECM.
