Do any of you use a Playstation or XBOX controller to play MWO? IS the game optimized to do so now?`

No, keyboard/mouse.

Anything else is a disadvantage.

You're trolling, right.

I can use a Razer Hydra with about 80% efficiency as with keyboard/mouse.

Why would anyone play MWO with a controller is beyond me. In fact, I'm insulted that you want PGI wasting time making MWO playable with a controller. This is a PC game....I don't even....

Good luck with that. You'll need it.

Joysticks, controllers, etc only work well with SRM boats to be honest.

Joystick. 20,000+ matches.
Don't know anything better.

And while I do play SRM boat a lot, there is no problem with playing any weight class or chassis.

Have you tried using joysticks? Without giving up after just a few times, that is?

Thanks for replies. Since I now know that it will work, how do you configure it? Do you have to run through a program like motionjoy, betterDS3, etc.

I want to try it out, but cant seem to get it to work.

Step 1. Take controller, joystick, or gamepad and place on desk
Step 2. Get out hammer
Step 3. Smash controller, joystick, or gamepad with hammer until it is satisfactorily destroyed
Step 4. Plug in USB mouse and keyboard
Step 5. enjoy playing game

i used to use a ch fighterstick, throttle and pedals. joystick has some advantages over the mouse, torso twisting is easier, slam the stick and you are turning at the fastest possible rate. now for the disadvantage, and its a huge one, aiming takes longer and is not as precise (for an experienced joystick user). snap shots are impossible, and forget controlling your arms with it.

several months ago my joystick started showing its age, lots of play about the center, and ive been unable to repair it. so i broke out my old laser mouse and had a drastic improvement in performance. i still use my throttle and pedals, because not having analog steering and throttle control leads to clumsy piloting. so i highly recommend a mouse and a left hand controller of sorts.

Unless you've been using joysticks for years, don't bother.
You'll be a burden to your team more than anything.

any brawler. the speedy torso twist and short range will make brawling easier. anything with ssrms, lrms, 10/20 class autocannons, small lasers, medium pulse. if you like gauss/ppc/er anything/blue lasers put the stick away and get the rat.

Why do I get the feeling that you guys were using the joystick to aim?
Who the hell started the trend of replacing the mouse with the joystick? because then I agree with this guy:

It really begs the question: Have you tried solving the problem?

Compared to keyboard, joystick have superior control over movement + more buttons + you won't press the wrong button.
Most noticeable when piloting anything close range.

Please, STOP telling other people that "this is the only way" or "that will never work" if you don't truly understand the thing in question.

"The only way to play this game is using the Meta-"
NO

"As a Lonewolf you want to try to achieve good trade ratios at intermediate and long range rather than trade heavy blows at short range."

joysticks add to immersion. though in this game they tend to impede competitiveness. its funny because in combat flight sim circles the opposite is true. joysticks are king and mousers, lol. maybe its just that mwo tries too hard to be a shooter and not hard enough to be a sim. i want mwo to be a sim but as long as i have to use a mouse to be competitive it never will be.

as weird as this sounds to competitive players, some players value having fun more than winning. if having fun involves wiggling the stick then by all means wiggle that stick. this standard controller nonsense is kind of whats wrong with console games, to adopt the same kind of thinking for the pc master race just seems absurd. if i want to play the game with an accelerometer duct taped to my scrotum i will (once).

It's the 21st Century already and you still use keyboards and mice? And for an IP that uses neurohelmets?

Mundanes. <smh>

I completely endorse the use of gampads in MWO by other people. I would advise anyone else to go ahead and give it a go. If they are looking for the ultimate experience go with a steering wheel. Sure, there is a steep learning curve but it will be worth it eventually.

You guys are being too harsh

There is a whole generation that only use controllers

If I pick up one I have to reverse the up and down, for some reason when you pull back with your thumb you go down

With a joy stick you pull back you go up

Anyway I could never get used to a controller but a lot of people that’s all they know
