Exactly as per title.

Randomly select a group of players. Completely indiscriminate.

For the sake of discussion, let's say we have 100 players per day randomly marked as a bounty. These are available to the entire playerbase who happen to drop against them outside of a private match, or a CW match. The bounty list can be checked on the site.

When you are selected, you get an auto message in your forum inbox stating that you were, explaining that anyone who kills you will receive a bonus for doing so. (Some lore fluff about Comstar whatnot. I'm not sure. I never looked that far into how assigning hits worked in the world of Battletech. )

Getting the killing blow on a target with a Bounty allows you two event draws from a goody bag; similar to how the halloween and christmas events were done in 2014. An assist qualifies as a single draw, all of which are claimed on the Bounty page on the site.

After that, the target's name is crossed off the hit list.

In summary:
  • Pick a group of random people.
  • Tell them they are marked men.
  • Anyone who kills them in a solo/group match as an enemy gets 2 grab bag draws from an item pool like our halloween/christmas events.
  • Assists only get 1 grab bag draw.
  • A killed person is removed from the list.
  • Repeat every 24 hours!

What incentive is there for a marked player to actually play? Or are they just going to say, "Gorram it, I'm the target, better not play today"?

As a suggestion, give players marked as targets the benefits of premium time for as long as they remain a target. Once they get killed, it goes away. This encourages them to take the risks to get c-bills and XP, but also encourages them not to be an easy kill. To further encourage defensive player participation, double Saviour Kill bonuses for the bounty target's allies when the 'mech killed had been damaging the bounty target.

Awesome idea!
I would only change the fact of "being marked" in "being marked voluntary". Maybe there is an ingame button to mark yourself (once a day) and if there are hundred marked players ingame, the option is disabled.
You should really know about the fact that you are marked. :)

Edit: Oh and maybe it's only possible to get marked if you choose the mech class with the lowest amount of players (maybe lights: 6%). You do something good for the matchmaker and maybe you get a little gift for it (to be part of the game and to play a mech that is needed, maybe 25,000 CBills).

Far too random to be made an event. How about making certain factions the target (Each faction gets their own bounty separately)

For Example:
Marik have to shoot Liao
Liao have to shoot Steiner
Steiner have to shoot Clan Wolf
and so on...

This would have an added bonus for the game which would be to introduce players to the Faction system.

This way, there could even be a personal challenge (Kill 2 Bounties to get 3 days premium time, kill 5 to get a Faction hanging item, kill 15 to get a faction warhorn) and a leaderboard and best hunting faction (but only in solo games, as this would be far too easy to exploit in group drops).

"You have a bounty for 100,000 cbills."

*Plays a match and survives.*

"Sweet, I got a 100,000 bonus for noone getting me. What, now I have a bounty of 200,000 cbills?"

Also, when targeted, your square and name are a conspicuous orange. xD

All PGI employees should have a bounty.

Not that any match with a PGI employee doesn't play out like a protect/kill the VIP game already.
