Well... after the ebon jaguar... its happening again on the arctic cheetah.

first let me clarify some things for you experts and specialists to stop you from guess work and assumptions.
  • PGI changed its approach to special geometry from completely unique components to add-on geo (like dynamic weapon mounts)
  • The texture for those special geo parts are in a separate file along with dynamic weapons.
Objects.pak\objects\mechs\<mechname>\body\<mechname>_variant_rgb(spc,dif).dds
  • For the special geo to have texture, a new variant_rgb(spc,dif) file(s) should be provided with a pattern. (patterns are not all in 1 file, it depends how many the mech has in the first place and how many of that you are going to modify)
  • special geo only occupies a very small portion of the file and the pattern can be easily remapped to it from the same component on the non-invasion texture file.
  • That special geo already have a texture in the invasion pattern.
  • other examples are the gold timberwolf with golden missile boxes (as textured add-on geo)
So...

I have some questions:
1- Is this some sort of PGI revenge for us asking for camo support in PRIME(I)s?
2- or is it because of lack of time?

I'd say you were on to something about lack of time, rather than it being a revenge plot. I'd be leaning more towards efficiency, and as long as we're theorizing...

...think on this; PGI have stated in the past that they wanted to provide alternate unique geometry as a microtransaction. Differrent Atlas heads, etc. The implementation of separate files for the geometry on display seems as though it would support that system nicely.

We need to prevent this

The time is now... otherwise, these will be the result: black special geo everywhere

I agree that the black shins don't look good on the Dire and Timby. But could it be that PGI purposefully left the special geo on recent 'Mechs black because they think it looks okay (good) and saves their time?

They could always do it in a non-aggressive way. Not some huge part that covers a large portion of where the camo can really shine.

its more like an insult... its like they specifically look for areas where patterns look good, and then screw it up on the invasion variants.

Aaaaaaaaand brace for another fifteen pages of Navid kvetching that the special geo ruins, just RUINS(!!), his paint jobs.

Dude? We get it, seriously. It's annoying, I agree. You're treating it like it's a game-breaking glitch or a 27-damage-SRM level piece of unintended behavior and not a minorish inconvenience. See if someone can get Piranha's attention and ask why the special geometry on Invasion variants is isolated away from the camouflage schemes, but if they say "because that's how our game files are set up, sorry", be prepared to roll with it, eh?

I am happy they are at least painting the Invasion's special geometry. I wish they would go back and paint the EBJ and EXE special geometry at least in Invasion Camo

Maybe with time the special geometry will match other camo's color. Let them work it out

Aside from matching the Invasion camo
Special geometry should just get 1 other pattern, painted with 1 color that changes with the primary color of all the other skins.

That way they dont have to remake a texture for every single skin.

Well i usually give up after 3 pages really :P
Does that bother you?......... gooooooooood !

And don't worry, I've been doing my share of whining on more important gameplay aspects.
