New Mechs Introduced In The Boringest Way Possible.

It's the exact same way when you look at mechs in the gift store. There have been several times this past month I had intrest in getting a mech for myself or a friend from the store but the same old thing stoped me dead. Picture of the mech with a wall of text about hard points. There goes any intrest or desire to buy that mech. My money just went to a game on steam or gog because they have at least one video of the game play of the game I'm looking at.
What about those ngng video on youtube? They show the mech don't they? Yes they do in a very limited way. You get a few shots of the outside of the mech which gives you a small glance at the camo. They give you a few cockpit shots sometimes showing weapons and weapong grouping. Sometimes they show it one vs one against another mech like how they showed the king crab vs a dire wolf. You also see who recorded the video with creepy mystery guy's face on the left and get a naration on everything.
I would like the old style of hero videos to return. Using the old Liya Muromets for example:
It focuses on things I want to know about and get me interested and excited to buy the mech. There is no mystery guy's face in the corner. No naration trying to explain everything. The :01 second mark to :17 second mark showing the Llya take down the Cada and enaging the Awesome? You have rock music playing. You see the mech from mutiple views intercut from both external and internal views. It has my attention.
The next part showing it circling that hbk and lasering it? Sweet. It even tells me the types of lasers. The Cata 4x getting hit with AC 10? BOOM! So far I've seen the look of the mech and I know what it has for weapons thus far and yet I'm only near the :35 mark. The video is 1:38 long. I'm freking psyched for this mech already.
From about :37 to 1:00 I see the mech fighting a few other mechs getting info on its weight speed. I might not know anything about those other mechs but it looks like the Llya is kicking butt. Which is exactly what I want to do with it. And a 30% cbill boost?! Man, where is my wallet. From 1:00 to 1:16 we get to see a small montage of the mech in action against other mechs guns and lasers blazing. 1:17 to 1:22 we get the leagal blah blah blah don't care. Finally we get the mwo logo, the url, and then SURPRIZE! The mech you just watched kick butt close up torso twisting and going camera left.
The video has done far more to get me to spend real money on the mech than a picture with a wall of text. Does the wall of text have the same information or more than the video? It might but why should I care? That screen shot of the mech? Meh. So that is what the mech looks like from that point of view. Again I don't care. Both the picture and wall of text do nothing to get me to want to buy the mech even though they might convey the exact same information that a small viedo might.

Brother, you don't know the half of it. Mechwarrior universe is so rich in lore, yet PGI mentions nothing about the origins of the new mechs in the introduction. Is it so ******* hard for them to include a tidbit from Sarna about the mech and narrate it during trailer? Like this?
Quote
This OmniMech makes use of weight-saving technologies in the form of an Endo Steel internal structure, an XL Engine, and seven tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor. All of these together allow the Shadow Cat to employ more pod space than the Ice Ferret at the expense of speed. To counteract this, the base chassis employs jump jets and Myomer Accelerated Signal Circuitry that enables it to move up to 130 km/h in bursts.
The primary configuration of the Shadow Cat wields a Gauss Rifle allowing it to handily defeat smaller opponents, often before they can get within range. A pair of smaller ER Medium Lasers back up the rifle, together able to deal almost as much damage as the gauss rifle can. An Active Probe gives the Shadow Cat the ability to detect hidden units, making it a capable scout.
That underlined part sounds badass.
It is like PGI only want to profit from the mech packs with minimal effort on other things. Oh wait, that's basically what a minimally viable product is.

I did not know the Ilya video existed until now.
Someone is failing at pushing this stuff.

Yep, that's how most F2P games attract horny Steam boys--by putting up a picture of a hot girl. Very easy to implement.

For me its seeing awsome stuff. The load screens are barely ok, the title screen is bad, I could go on and on.
There is nothing wrong with treating players good, treating them bad will solve nothing. Really.

For example, ever since CB I've loved dragons (masochist I guess) so when it came time to pick my hero I chose the Flame over the Fang because the Flame can do stuff the other Dragons can't (AC20), 4 arm mounted lasers, etc. The latest pair of Heroes? The Quarantine doesn't do anything interesting, let alone anything better than the others. If the left arm or a torso had gotten that ballistics point instead?

Most (all?) games tend to get bigger and have more features the longer they are developed. With MWO it's quite the opposite.
In the past we got:
- fluff text of all the maps
- lore-tidbits in form of news snippets
- videos of new mechs/heroes
- concept art gallery on the MWO page
- Ask The Devs
- etc.
The game get's progressively streamlined into milking the last remaining whales dry of their money with the least possible effort it seems. All good ideas that take some time away from generating money are dropped after a while.

Critical Rocket on YouTube does some lore videos for MWO mechs. They are interesting to watch. Kind of sarna.net put to audio with the mech and its different variants shown.

In my Fallout 3 mod I had a personal computer that would play Mass Effect 2 videos for a more cyberpunk feel. Many of the textures from Fallout 3 were replaced with mass Effect 2 textures even.
Anyway, the point is they can have mechs sales done in amazing ways in game if they do go that direction.
Sales person encouraging the player to sit in a demo cockpit on the sales floor to see if its what the player wants or check a video out etc.

If someone is considering buying a hero, but they are unsure, they could click a "watch promo video" button.
Some of the old hero mech vids are pretty well done, and would probably help increase sales.
Since Youtube videos can be imbedded, PGI could link to one of their own sites complete with a "buy MC" link and an option to buy the mastery bundle.
BTW "boringest" isn't a word. You should have said "most boring".

I'd rather have wall of stats so I can see the quirks and hardpoints. Especially for the heroes since we know how the base chassis handles already. I was turned off of the new heroes because they do nothing well, I'm glad PGI didn't waste time on a video.
