Is this sound mod considered cheating or is this well within the TOS? Just curious, no trolling.

Shhh dammit! :P

It's definitely not cheating in definition, whether it's against ToS is another question... it's not technically replacing anything or modifying the .pak files directly... I think... still, not something you probably want to bring up too much.

PGI already responded to the previous sound 'mod' which was somewhere along the lines of no, no it's not allowed, so best keep it to yourself. ;)

I have never been enamoured by the weapons sounds in-game. I mean, even back then in MW3 and MW4 the weapons have significantly bigger punch to their sounds.

It is against ToS and anyone who has it is at risk of getting banned. PGI should either allow modding, or monetize this by making it a "MW2 sound pack", followed by "MW3 sound pack" and "MW4 sound pack".

El Bandito... If it's against TOS why does PGI not ban Shivaxi? I didn't see a link in the forums for the previous sound mod post, so maybe if it's not too much trouble, can somebody please link to a definitive answer from PGI? I'd love to install this, but I'm not going to do it if it's against the TOS. Makes sense that it would be, but then again under that logic Shivaxi would already be banned if that were true? Any solid sources are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Also, I agree, having MW2,3,&4 sound packs would be awesome, but I'm sure there's a big legal headache involved sine PGI doesn't own the rights to that content? Just speculating. I do wish they would improve the sound pack tho :(

Perhaps they had contacted him in this regard. Does he still use the modded files?

As for the TOS stating about this specific issue:

Quote

Our Content—Except where expressly stated otherwise, all right, title and interest in and to the PGI Offerings and all Content, source code, processes, designs, technologies, URLs, domain names, marks and logos forming any part of the PGI Offerings (collectively, “ Our Content”) is fully vested in us, our licensors or our suppliers and are protected by applicable copyrights, trade-marks, patents, trade secrets or other proprietary rights and laws. You agree that Our Content is licensed subject to the terms of this Agreement, including the disclaimers and limitations of liability herein. Nothing in your use of the PGI Offerings or this Agreement grants you any right, title or interest in or to Our Content except the limited right to use the PGI Offerings as set out in this Agreement. Unless otherwise expressly authorized by us in writing, you agree not to

1. copy, modify, rent, lease, loan, sell, assign, sublicense, grant a security interest in or otherwise transfer any right or interest in Our Content

Remember that sound modding is still relative new to MWO, so PGI might act differently per case. I know I had stopped using the sound mod for my CUACs.

Quite possibly because they don't know about this yet and/or are afraid of the PR shitstorm it would cause to ban someone for this.

Last time the subject came up (when someone replaced the laser firing sounds with a recording of them saying "pew") someone tweeted it to Russ who said that if players were caught with modified .pak files (which is how the mod is installed) they would be banned.

Just for the record. I would pay ALL TEH MCZ FOR THIS SOUND PACK!

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way, can we please, PLEASE get an official PGI response on this particular instance of sound modding. MW2 sounds bring back all my Nostalgia.

Also, just found my new Background Music for Solo Queue.....

The answer was, more or less, it's against the ToS and isn't allowed by PGI. If you're expecting another official response on this one, the answer will be the same, because it is against the ToS and technically is grounds for banning if they saw fit. The old answer was on the old thread that was deleted.

However, it's a grey area because you're not technically cheating and it wouldn't go down great if someone was banned for using something like this.

So obviously they're not going to tell you it's allowed, because it's not without changing their ToS, but I'd imagine PGI won't make a massive thing about it unless you make a massive thing about it. :P

The funny thing is, even though this is against TOS, it also cannot really in any way be considered cheating as it could be listed as something that actually hinders you in a way more than helps due to the muting of some sounds that didn't have a MW2 proxy.

I saw this mod lastnight before I passed out, and was going to make this thread today after work, seems OP beat me too it. I think this is something PGI needs to discuss at length, because frankly, there are some people that are just, not happy with PGI's sounds. I'd love the option to utilize this mod... but I have thousands of dollars invested into MWO over 3+ years, and I would rather not risk a ban simply because I didn't use the approved sounds.

PGI has them weapon sounds well covered, but the rest of the sounds in this mod are really kick ass :D

Sent it to some friends, same opinion :)

I watched that video yesterday. I like the old MW2 Betty. That sound pack would be excellent!

The weapon sound effects I don't really care for to be honest.

I won't try to get it because I have too much time and money into this game to be banned. Like many said, it is against the ToS and technically a bannable offense.

There is a good chance nothing would come of it if you installed those files. It doesn't give you an advantage and therefore PGI may choose to ignore it or not look for it, but why risk it if you have a lot invested in the game?

Cool to watch, but ultimately best avoided I think.

Part of me hopes PGI is willing to say "hey, X mod is ok." But, that opens them up to checking into EVERY mod.

and they don't have the manpower for that.

Of course with the steam move, maybe they could open up workshop support or something?

Wouldn't mind hearing this play after bitchin betty's "all systems nominal".

Then a sound byte of Mr. T saying "I Pity the Fool" after a mech destroyed event.

Or Queen's "Dun dun dun, another one bites the dust," after mech destroyed event.

Customizable event sounds have the potential to be entertaining for awhile.
