I read it...it just didn't make sense. What extra mobility? Look at the builds in my last post. With the 225 you're more mobile and cooler. Literally the only difference is that an external WeakDub moves into the engine and is replaced by a TrueDub. You are faster (and thus turn faster), you cool better and everything else is the same.

terciel has it right, you gimp yourself if you use the 220, also, if you drop some armor, you can fit the 235 instead.

so... you don't want to ditch a heat sink to free up a ton for a heavier engine WITH A BUILT-IN ADDITIONAL, BETTER HEAT SINK.

As I said earlier, I'm not sure how much difference there is between three and four JJs, but I wouldn't want to strip that much armor off the legs of a jumping mech, so I'd lean to dropping a JJ rather than cutting that deep on the leg armor. This seems to happen a lot on BJs, which is why I favor the XL225 so heavily on them.

i suppose it'd be alright with three jj instead. I like to fly, so i install max jj whenever possible

BJ arms don't get hit much, could try something like this. (I'm real conservative on BJ heads because they're dead center and easy to get hit by accident).

BJ-3 PPC Sniper

This is my personal build and it's one of my favorites. You can dish out a lot of hurt.

Maxing out DHS and maneuverability. I personally don't use it with backup weapons given that it's pretty easy to clear 90m on most mechs (especially with a lot of JJs), but you could easily trade in 2 JJs for 2 small lasers or an HS and 2 JJs for 2 mediums / small pulses.

Just in case anyone was curious, I've been doing pretty decent with the loadout, even before adding in the XL engine and running without any modules and only basic proficiencies. I'm positive on the W/L ratio and average about 175 damage per round, which is only going up now that I've elited the mech, maxed out the engine, and added a 4x zoom.

I've tried out the -1X and the -1, but wasn't overly impressed. I ran the 1X with 6 ML and 2 SL, but felt I was too fragile to hang around long and not fast enough to flee when I needed to, maybe a bigger engine would fix it, but I'm too poor atm to invest into a mech I'm not really big on anyway. I liked that the -1 kept the jump jets, but it the AC2s just kinda fell flat, not enough impact and too heavy to really mount meaningful secondary weapons. I considered AC5s, but it didn't look good enough to invest in.

But things are still going good for ol' Lucky!

Pretty much this - some may prefer a higher engine, but this is a rock solid build...

235 is the cap I believe, only the 1X gets the option to go bigger in exchange for it's jump jets.

I did actually, because I need to get the second tier of skill upgrades for it anyway. I transplanted the XL 235 from my -3 into it and run 6 ML, 2 ERLL with pretty good results. It doesn't like desert maps for sure, but it does well enough and avoids ghost heat. I like my ERPPCs and jump jets though, so I'll be mostly sticking to my -3. It did earn a spot in my future faction warfare dropship though, at least until the Shadow Cat is released to us peasants.

The role where the BJ-1X comes in is running up and down the frontline "Hit & Run" sometimes pushing into their territory, pull the red PUGs to your team and so on.

I'd say the BJ-1X is a more a maker than a follower, once found out you'll see that the enemy team is exactly doing what you want.

Running it without an XL280+ really misses its potential, though. That 110ish speed is what makes it tick (and different than other BJs)

i have mine with all med lasers and XL 275 engine, endo steel oops, no endo steel and stuffed to the gills with DHS
