I'd just support this -having tourneys a la Tukkayid- to offset/promote new content injection as a means to generate more interest and give some meaning to CW.

Currently the mode is quite bland and dry so even if the "reward" was as silly as getting a mech for your side released this patch and having the other side's next patch it would add something of at least some meaning to the overall community effort side vs side.

Or have tourneys that unlock a c-bill/mc discount on certain items for the players on the winning side. Little things that give some depth to the mode.

not true. look at tukkayid. MS was on the side of the clans, and yet the outcome was pretty even, with clans just squeaking ahead.

Look, I don't want to sound too negative, but that was different since there was no new technology at stake. I appreciate ideas to improve CW and I am not per se opposed to the introduction of new weapons, but implemented like this, it will only lead to the exploit I described.

CW is not the optimal place for a "new weapon".

It would be complained about that it isn't in the non-CW queues, so I don't even want to get there.

What you really want to do is provide "Loyalty variants" through CW for each faction... the idea is kinda like those Loyalty medallions (but not a paltry bonus of 1.25% per medallion) that is "specialized" for that faction and providing bonus LP. Making them "exclusively" obtained through CW would actually be a worthwhile goal for some people (especially the Pokemech collectors).

New weapons don't solve the problem.

Note: Having reread the premise (the original post), I don't think that's "good enough" motivation (another battle of Tukayyid of sorts) to introduce the weapon given the current CW situation (massive CW burnout). It sounds "cool" on the surface, but honestly it still doesn't solve much in the grand scheme of things other than pro-Clan people saying "hey, where's our *insert preferred weapon here" and such. Then again, PGI is still notorious for leaving weapons terrible indefinitely or for prolonged periods (Flamers and MGs come to mind).

You're on to something here. Make a CW event reward a mech with a new tech weapon hard wired to the mech (like the flamer on the adder), and you cannot buy the weapon. It would make them unique and special, while limiting the power creep by squishing the build options.

Your post gave me an idea. Why not add loot of same-tier weaponry and such to CW. They won't be game breaking. They will simply add variety to weapons, only attainable by playing CW, something that we need. At some point after introduction as loot items, they can be released for cbills.
