I had a sudden FPS drop from 30-40 down to about 12 today... 30-40 fps is a little rough but certainly playable, but 12 fps is completely unplayable. The match started out fine, but suddenly my fps tanked and I had to go take cover while it was low. It eventually came back up (after maybe 20 seconds?), but later went back down. It's tough to determine a pattern as to what was causing it, but I'll try to add some details:

Mech: Catapult K2, running 4x PPC (heh)
Map: River city, it was dusk I think
Circumstances: Possibly after firing PPCs? But not all the time. Had thermals on frequently.
Specs: Win7 64 bit, AMD FX6350 CPU, NVidia GTX 660, 12 GB RAM
Server: EU, Skirmish mode

I have footage of both of the times my FPS dropped during the match, and I'm not sure if it's just coincidence, but both times were shortly after PPCs had been fired (either from me or an enemy Awesome Q variant I had been battling).

Anyone seen anything similar?

NEW DATA

Happened again on Viridian Bog, I was in a Cataphract with MLs and an AC20. EU Server, Conquest game mode. Only similarity I can come up with for both instances is that I had been playing a handful of matches consecutively without closing out the game, maybe 6-8 matches straight or so. Seems to happen only during combat. This time it only happened once, and near the middle of the match. Lasted about 20 seconds, same as before.

AND AGAIN

Thunderbolt with 3x LPL, River City again. EU Conquest. This time was the first match after restarting. Now I have absolutely no idea what the cause is.

Happened to me yesterday and either yesterday or 2 days ago to my unitmate. Everything is fine, ~40 fps*** and suddenly, blam, ~15fps.

*** if you can call "fine" getting 40fps on 4.5GHz hexa core 8GB RAM PC with 2GB GPU with every single option on low. This should be smooth 60. Always.

Well, at first I thought my laptop was dying. But now.. :)

CPU: i7 3610QM @2.3 GHz, boosted 3,3 GHz
GPU: GTX 680M
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Win 7 Pro 64

In game resolution: 1080p
settings: all high (except particles, post-processing, no anti-alaising) @ DX11

Before this weekend everything was smooth, fps dropped never below 40-ish, being around 60ish normaly. Now at times drops happen even below 10 fps for no obvious reason. Temperatures are ok, the laptop is on a cooling pad (does not help, also activating the second fan).
Reducing settings to global low and resolution to 720p does not improve the fps.
Then, after a few seconds, the fps rise to the skies again, only to get burned like the phoenix again..

Your CPU or GPU is throttling.

Use OpenHardwareMonitor, create a graph, and see what the temperatures get up to when in-game for long periods of time.

I use a Lenovo Y510P, and told everyone who told me this that they were nuts. However, I used this tool, realized my temps were getting to 100 degrees celcius, and knew what the problem was.

Do that, tell me your temperatures after playing for a good 1/2 hour, then I'll advise from there.

Ok, will do. Yet, prior to this weekend this has NEVER happend.

Checked temperatures with hwinfo sensor program. CPU hit 90 degrees.

Going ohm now.

-Delete the cache folder ( Users-> "Your Name" -> Saved Games -> MechWarrior online - >Shaders)
-Run repair tool,
-turn off your PC, let it cool down ....turn it back on again...
and the game should work normally again...

At least thats what helps me everytime

Hope it helps You guys too

Were you playing constantly, not tabbing in and out? Did you scale the graph so you could see it accurately over time?

If not, chances are it's higher.

At those temperatures, you CPU/GPU is certainly throttling. Yes they *can* withstand higher temperatures, but they throttle at much lower ones. Mine throttle around 95, even though I believe they could handle 110.

I had this EXACT same issue and I never understood.

I cut out some plastic covering the fans on my laptop, turned all the settings to minimum, got a laptop cooling stand, blew out the dust, and it worked great! I was getting solid FPS with no drops.

Do the same, and it should work.

Do not believe people who say it is on your end. River S#itty had framerate drops before the redesign, and it continues to rock them with the new look. Something was clearly not fixed.

Not River City. Any map, also CW.
But I think you are right: Some code causes my CPU AND GPU to get hot and thus maybe throttle.
CPU mid 80s, though it has a limit of 105°C. So no problem there. Temps as usual when gaming.
Now GPU high 80s. Almost 10 degrees more than prior weekend / patch.

Shaders cache was not the problem.

Made my decision on whether to buy IIC collection or not as well as the reoccuring of crash to desktop. :)

I denied that my CPU/GPU was throttling for the longest time. Was dropping from 45 fps to 12 and didn't get it.

You're on a laptop, and the cooling is likely crap. Just tone down the settings, close any other applications you don't need (youtube, steam, etc) and make sure your laptop isn't full of dust. Once you've done that, you'll be fine.

ALSO: Run the repair tool, just to be safe. Never hurts. If you're getting crashes, that or outdated drivers may be the cause.

Neg, although laptop. It is a gaming laptop with dual vents. No other game causes this (Tomb Raider, Resident Evil whatever part, Crysis Warhead). As written above, neither reducing details nor resolution turns things better; fans are clean. Hardware sided (from the exterior) nothing causing trouble.

German, not my specs exactly, but close. Bottom line after stress test: temps around 90 degrees.

What I've been getting for the last few weeks is somewhat trouble-some. The video of the game freezes completely for like 5 seconds with the sound still running.
After a few seconds, the game returns to "normal", but by then you already took critical damage or are already dead.

I've NEVER seen my FPS take dive in this game before, but this morning my last three matches have been horrible. What is Control+F2 save highlight? is that new? I've seen it before outside of match, but never during.

My fps dropped with the beginning of July patch, forcing me to turn all options to 'low'. Stuff even started to look weird, lasers were dotted lines instead of beams, other mechs seem to blur as they move. I dont have an optimum computer for the game, but suddenly I play at between 15-8 fps, which has never happended Before (and this is not even on the river city).

I was just going to put some Money into this game after testing it out for a while, but Im not Confident the developers know what they are doing as I read a lot about the game starting to lag and drop in fps...

I have run across a memory leak in flash (in-browser) that seems to have bearing as well - if I've got a browser open in the background with an active Flash item (say, a paused youtube video), then MWO has problems. I doubt it's directly MWO related, however.

I've been having the same problem on my laptop. Some matches FPS is 30-50, then the next will be in the teens or lower.

Previous to this patch framerate was consistently in the 30-50 range.
