My 780 Ti (alongside 16 gb 1866 ram, i7-4790k) does 1440p with almost max setting (i think i put shading and post processing down to medium, and I don't run AA, I feel like at that resolution I can't really notice it) usually between 80-100 fps. I also usually have a second monitor doing other stuff though, like watching a movie or playing some old game like mechwarrior 4. 970 is similar to a 780 Ti performance wise right?

the 780Ti is similar to the GTX980

the 970 is more like the 780 3GB unit

both are not exactly able to play 1440P at max

you need to look at the GTX980 or R9 390X

a 380 is slower than your current 7970 in most games, so don't get that.

I guess I should also add to this that mine is overclocked a bit, typically to just under 1100 MHz

FWIW I run a 980Ti (OC 1354) on max and get 90-115FPS map dependent. I5 4960 OC 4000mhz. 16g 1833
