One thing people bring up sometimes is the perceived idea that battles lack meaning.

Might it be possible / worthwhile to add an in game clock that displayed a form of pseudo time? Eg.

Then incorporate a calendar of events for certain segments of the battletech timeline. We've already had the battle of tukayyid, if I remember right? I doubt it would be feasible to have the release of new mech packs and technology correspond to an in-game clock that corresponds to some immersive year 3000+ chronology.

But having some loose timeline of events and the feeling that each day, month and year are unique and once in a lifetime things that could affect future development, even if to a small degree might have the potential to add some immersion element.

Apologies for posting this, I think it might be overcomplicated and not worth considering. I'm just bored and have time to kill.

Good idea.

If the lore and timeline actually mattered in this game, that would be nice too.

Good idea, PGI should always be looking to improve immersion because obviously, it's one of the big reasons many of us enjoy this game.

I made a thread (link in my SIG.) about expanding our customization options. I think this would also allow us to create more immersion for ourselves.

The time line for a Roleplaying game. This is a FPS and maybe a little Simulator.

We should just get the coolest mechs from any time and roll them in this Arena mmo.

How is it 3053 already?

Gods Above the timeline is all sorts of messed up. Russ said it was only supposed to be 3052.

Somebody get a list of mechs together that were introduced between 3052 and 3055. I'm sure there are some fan favorites that we need to start poking PGI about. ;)

Tukayyid didn't happen, that was simply the end of CW beta phase 1, now we're in phase 2 and we'll probably have another Tukayyid event to close it with. Russ said Tukayyid will happen multiple times during the CW beta testing, that doesn't mean we're actually AT that point in the timeline, because they simply reset the CW map after each beta phase.

Once CW goes Live, ie - Gold release, we haven't hit that point in the timeline yet, we're in stasis, with the year being 3052 and Tech being used limited to that time.

There is no passage of time in MWO.

They had the idea at first to keep a 1:1 day-by-day correspondence between 2012 and 3049, but when May 3050 (2013) came and went without the Clans being here, they scrapped the whole idea. It's been some undefined date in 3050 ever since.

The only exception is 'mech releases, where PGI have said that they'll consider 'mechs introduced up to 3052 for inclusion. For what reason, PGI only knows.

We're actually in 3052 right now according to Russ, which is also the Tech timeline limit PGI is using, something that was just recently pointed out in another thread. Someone asked Russ on Twitter what the actual year was for MWO currently, he responded, 3052.

So once CW goes Gold, we're 'officially' in 3052 and the timeline will, probably, start advancing again..maybe..who knows for sure at this point :)

I think a long way to helping immersion would be to have randomly generated stats for planets and actually making gravity affect JJs etc.

They may have to redo some assets in artwork to make it interchangable with temperature settings. But a frozen terra therma with an idle volcano would add a little bit of variety.

JJs and gravity though, DO IT.

*shakes head in disbelief* Just when you think they can't be any dumber... That means both Luthien and Tukayyid are over and done with, and the Clan invasion is basically over.
