the game is one of the biggest on the planet for a reason. they must be doing something right.

I played it a few times, and I thought it was a giant PoS.

I'll never touch it again. I really can't see the appeal.

Never made it past the tutorial in WoT, Think it was the CoF mechanic that killed it for me. Though I do respect the fact that the had the insight to say that machine guns are useless in tanks fights.

WoT aiming system just felt horrendous to me, I would be right on target and straight up miss, then wait 10 seconds to fire again. Very annoying, and the tier system does suck.

War Thunder has some satisfying moments-- watching a shell shatter inside my enemies crew compartment in-xray view, and seeing "oh, that guy got one in the head". And conversely when the shells are bursting in my tank, with shrapnel mere cm's away from their own heads, "damn, better get into cover."

Too bad the game only has tanks and no robits (april fools day withstanding).

-Maps
They looking great and they are HUGE! Way bigger then MWO maps (even the new ones)

Idd. Is there any particular reason why we can't have really HUGE maps? I fail to see cons in this. Just look at ArmA series, one huge map, loads of missions/scenarios where you are able to explore whole map or you are limited to certain area through proper triggers.

One huge map for a certain archetype of environment/planet, loads of scenarios by just changing placement of boundaries/bases/capture points, rest of the assetss is already there and you don't have to make new map all over again. It's a complete victory. Why we can't have this?

If you like flying airplanes with a mouse in third person view. *barfs* War Thunder is really neat until you realize nobody plays hardcore mode so you can enjoy those graphics actually flying the plane with skillful combat.

Hardcore? You mean Sim Battles? Last time I've played it wasn't a problem to find a 16 vs 16 SB game, so maybe it was you trying to play in the wrong time or on the wrong tier?

So I started playing "World of Tanks" with a friend about six weeks ago. I know that it's hard to directly compare the two games but I have to say, MWO is by far the superior game. Of course this is just my opinion. :)

Things that MWO got right:
  • Graphics: Pretty much superior to WOT, and getting better as they redo maps.
  • Play Structure: I really, REALLY hate the whole "tier" system of WoT. There's nothing more frustrating than loading up a tank and getting stuck on the bottom vs. tanks 2-3 tiers higher than you. Those matches are pretty much a complete waste of my time.
  • You can always do damage: I've never felt completely useless in MWO, I have in WoT. Knowing that you are going up against someone that you simply can't do damage to is disheartening.
  • No "Gold Rounds": The fact that ammo is a paywall is pretty ridiculous. If MWO had an ammo paywall I would have been gone long before now.
  • Better time-to-kill: Nothing is more frustrating than loading into a WoT match and getting one-shot by something you can't see.
  • Better "leveling" system: I feel I can jump into MWO and get a chassis up and running in short order. I've never felt that it would take up to a year to get into the "best" mech. I can simply save up my cbills and buy in short order. Heck even when I started the game a few years ago I was able to get a number of mechs within a few months and fully master them. WoT will have you grinding and poor forever trying to get into the next tank.
Things I would like to see in MWO:
  • UI moddability: That's really the one thing in WoT that I would love to see in MWO.

LOL. Let's play tanks like WoW arena death match. Nope. Pass.

There's a reason I spent maybe $100 total in WoT, played for maybe 3 years, and then quit.

And then picked up MWO from a 2 year hiatus, spent $400, and now enjoy myself much more.

That's not to say MWO is perfect. It's far from it, and if MWO had the playerbase of WoT, PGI would have the funds to make the game better. MWO has a much higher skill-ceiling, where you need aimbot-like targetting to be amazing, instead of relying on RNG from a cone of fire.

I have no idea. I had my HOTAS all setup with pedals and Track IR, just started playing at the bottom tier and all I could find was three or four players... /sometimes/ but most of the time, it sat waiting to find a game for over an hour.

I gave up and went back to flying Falcon BMS and Rise of Flight.

loving WOWS myself. comparing Warthunder to WoT in like comparing apples to oranges. one is a blatant arcade style while the other is mostly a sim.

well if your saying WT is arcade then yes of course it is if your set to arcade mode, but the realistic battles are much more "sim" by a large margin..... btw get your free ship yet in WOWS? :D

Well, I guess you just did something wrong. You are supposed to go into Events & Tournaments Tab in the upper-right corner and then choose Air Simulator Battles. Also make sure that you have JIP (Menu -> Game Options -> Join already going battles) checked in the options. If you joined battle with 4 players and nothing changed then you probably have it disabled. I was joining battles with 4 players too, but then it went to 16 vs 16 pretty fast thanks to JIP. Also joining a battle was a wait of like 5 mins max, usually it's shorter.

Hmm

Fired up my US account on WoT last night.

Think there must have been a lot of skill disappearing, after I get 5 kills in a row in my Hellcat.....

Most times I get blitzed in that lil tin can.

I probably did. I had no idea what I was doing. It did look nice once in the cockpit, despite the crap plane you start with. That also irked me. In IL-2 Sturmovik, for example, when I played that online I could use any of the planes right away and dogfight all night long. That was nice. If War Thunder had a 60 bucks gets you all the stuff option, I probably would have considered that had I found players to play against.

It seemed like it would take forever to get anything decent.

it's not for everyone, no game is. there is no issue with that. i just had an issue with the bs claims the OP was making. neither game is better than the other, they both have flaws. it just bugs me when people make claims about a game they have little to no real experience with. it takes a long time to really understand WoT. the tiers were put in place for a reason. 1 tank leads to the next, each designed to teach you another mechanic you will need to learn for the higher tiers. crying about a false paywall and how impossible the game is when bottom tier screams inexperience and ignorance.

What about the grind through the absolute pile of wa nk tanks such as the Sturer Emil or the Challenger.Made that bad so you had to free xp through them.
What about WG Europes attitude towards Euro players?Milk the cash cow but NA and Russia pay much less for stuff.
What about the absolutely horrendous player base(bots and mods that should be banned) and the laughable report system?
I quit coz of these reasons and others.Oh and not to forget the very fair mm system NOT.
I played for about 3 years on and off so I'm just as qualified as anyone to comment on WOT.
Power to you if you want to keep financing Serbs space programme.I for 1 will not.

oh WOT, the game i have tried to love for so many years. I have played on and off for like 3 years, and each time just ended up rage quitting. i dont mind the more bizzare systems like the COF, or the spotting systems of a fundamental level, but what really kills wot for me is the ridiculously pay to win nature of it all. basically (a few) overpowered P2W premium tanks, gold ammo (you NEED a premium account to afford buying ammo for credits, even with very limited use), and the freaking crew skills system.

it is the crew skills that kill the game for me. can you think of any other shooter that artificially limits your ability to aim, move fire, and be spotted depending on a payment? oh yeah sure you can grind for hundreds of games to get your crews skills to 100%, and if you are lucky get a crew perk or additional skill. or slap down some gold just to be competitive with everyone else. or kick puppies depending on the tier. it is insane that some many fundamental FPS skills are tied to arbitrary numbers, that are in turn tied to a pay wall. tank speed, maneuverability, detectability, sight range, aiming speed, accuracy, damage control capacity are all tied to the crews skill level. you just cannot be competitive with out paying past tier 4, unless you dont mind being in the "tomato" doldrums, or have an amazing level of patience.

i use to like warthunder, but they just kept F*ing with realistic and sim tank battles, and i just got sick of it. i never played arcade past learning the basics of control. maybe ill go back some day to see if they ironed out some of those "kinks". oh and the amount of hackers and exploiters did make realistic and sim tank battles utterly unplayable. when 90% of all cover can be disabled in the options menu in a game based around not being spotted, GG. and when players in KV2s can spot, hit and kill half of a team in the opening couple min of a match starting from well out side of 2km? yeah, i dont think they are just "skilled"

world of warships on the other hand is really good. no crazy P2W (yet), and its fun and unique for a arena shooter. I am sort of looking forward to armored warfare as well, as it seems to take the WOT model, but with out the P2W crew skills. and more interesting modern vehicles
