5 Assaults vs 1 ...?

There wasn't a long wait for my team of 4 to get into this match.

Didn't they drop it so people could level their fresh new mechs?

I thought it was softer in group queue. I think teams are only "even" in the public queue. So, for example, if your team is 4-2-4-2, then the enemy team will be as well. Group queue, not so much. Could be wrong tho.

the 3-3-3-3 rule somewhat gets thrown out the window in group drops.

I wonder how long we would wait for PUG drops if it stayed strictly 3333.

PUG LIFE is up to 4 of any (4/0/4/4 being an option)

Group Queue is up to 5 of any, so 2/0/5/5 is a possibility.

I was very happy that they at least attempted something like 3/3/3/3.
I'm not arguing against something like BV, but prior to the 3s system, my medium mechs were entirely useless. At least now there's a good possibility the other side is fielding similar mechs.

Will I be happier if it's upgraded? Of course. Closely matched teams are ideal.

Tonnage does not equal effectiveness, and I shudder to think what PGI's BV costs will be. Maybe taking LRMs should give your team extra BV? :P

It's fairly consistent in the solo queue, although it tends to be 4 heavies and/or 4 assaults more often than not, I think.

In the Group Q, it's basically Mad Max conditions. Grab the biggest, shiniest vehicle you can and walk through the gates of Valhalla.

Personally I would like to see the complete abandonment of 3/3/3/3, tonnage, and BV as concepts and just let people play want they want without interference.

Apparently not when it comes to Assaults...

When it's five assaults vs one in a match of Skirmish ... then yes, tonnage to some extent equals effectiveness :)

well it beats the 7-9 assaults per team i saw reguarly prior to 4x3. or all heavies and mediums vs assaults and lights on alpine conquest.

there has to be some balance of letting people play what they want, wait times, and finding a fair/balanced match.

As long as there isn't a 25% equal love for each weight class, we'll be having lopsided rates where Lights are still sub 15% for the foreseeable future.

3/3/3/3 isnt a failure, the lack of will to enforce it is. Most people can't be bothered to play something else than a heavy with the flavor of the month/meta loadout. They don't want a fun or fair game.

They thought they could balance the weight classes by making people wait longer to play better mechs, as if that has anything to do with balance. The players didn't go for it, queue times ballooned, and PGI loosened the "release valves."

I think the code is still in there, but the release valves have blown completely off and the way players have been queuing hasn't let them come back with any normalcy.

Group queue it's simply not possible to have 3/3/3/3. If you start working out the math, it's really painfully obvious, but even without it's not a stretch. It's hard to tetris the groups in the queue into matches to start out with; the available player pool shrinks enormously once you've got a group in, then you've got Elo to consider as well (which also basically goes out the window in group queue) and game mode select. If you pick a specific game mode, or exclude a game mode, in the group queue you're telling the match maker: "I just want a match with totally random people."

I've posted the math a few times, to have the solo queue matchmaker able to make decent Elo based matches requires a concurrently playing population of over 20,000 people. This does happen at prime time, though it falters at off hours.

The group queue is a fraction of the solo queue in size, and has the added burden of fitting groups together basically means that all other elements of matchmaking are at best hopes and dreams.

And just to add, MM does try to give you those perfect 3/3/3/3 games if it can. But it's juggling a lot of other constraints such as Elo and available people searching. So it often times has to make concessions. If PGI had a more dynamic limitation based on group size (2-4 man groups restricted to 1/1/1/1, 5-8 man group restricted to 2/2/2/2, 9-12 man 3/3/3/3), it could hit 3/3/3/3 almost every time. Unfortunately it seems a lot of people are against that so we wind up with these ridiculous match ups. <_<

Not the lack of will to enforce it. They cannot enforce it, because populations just don't allow it.

The failure, though, is properly incentivizing playing less played weight classes. You can't force people to play the right weight classes, you need to make them want to.

But even if the queues where filled with an even distribution of players, you'd STILL have severe troubles getting 3/3/3/3 in group queue matches for the reasons I said in my post above - having to Tetris groups into sets of 12 players is extremely hard even with the other restrictions. It's just not going to happen unless we have orders of magnetude more players...

...or players start accepting the reality that we need to have soft game mode select to have decent matchmaking. But we the players said hard game mode select was more important than 3/3/3/3 or Elo, so that's that.
