...starting with this patch a fully-revamped Spectator Tool is available for use in Private Matches by all pilots! Re-designed specifically with live-streaming and content-creation in mind, the new Spectator Tool will provide pilots with an array of spectating controls to make the most of their creations and tournaments.

Don't get me wrong, they're not a bad thing, they should have just been in there earlier.

There was a lot of things they had to focus on early on. Every little feature had to be added in. And the rage because the game didn't meet the vision of the community. You couldn't say much in the way of positive things without getting spat with bile and hatred. So they couldn't really pause to do a spectator mode.

Right now the spectator aspect (entertainment value) of MWO is lacking. Adding an optional feature such as kill cam/bullet cam instant replay for kill shots with slow motion would be great as well as an option to make mechs show which parts are heavily damaged by a green->red color overlay on the components.
Also it would be great if kills were announced and which component was hit, even if it's just an optional text or icon graphic that shows up somewhere. It doesn't have to be the "TRIPLE KILL!" thing like in Dota 2.

Not directly related to the topic (a little, though). I just want that replay function so bad. More than new Mechs

Been wondering this myself. Can you have a mouse and joystick mapped at the same time, so I can play with the mouse, and then spectate with the joystick without having to remap controls?
