Solaris wouldnt just be 1v1. It would be 2v2 and probably 4v4. Solaris would also likely add lots of new weapons including melee weapons (PGI said if melee was ever added it would be as part of Solaris).
Although this game is unlikely to ever be an esport because it quite frankly has a very low skill cap and esport games generally have high skill caps, because thats what makes them worth watching.

What are you talking about? You do realize Community Warfare was one of the original four pillars of the game? Those four things were promised as part of the core game. CW was funded by the initial development seed money and kickstarter money. Which from what ive read was around 20 million dollars.
Coop was not one of the four pillars. In order to pay for its development they would need to charge outrageous prices for campaign packs. You are being completely naive if you think youre getting coop content for free. Let alone for a reasonable price...
The chances of coop happening are slim to none. And if it does happen it will likely be a disaster for this game financially. This game is not new anymore, its old, and if PGI wants to be moderately successful as a game studio they need to keep building on MWO's strengths and tie the success of MWO to new games they develop (like world of tanks did with world of planes/ships, etc...). This game is a multiplayer game so spending 6-12 months on something that doesnt enhance the multiplayer experience would be a catastrophic mistake. Especially if PGI plans on releasing another game title (an aerotech or wing commander game is the obvious choice since they also own the rights to the wing commander IP)

World of Warplanes was/is a huge disaster. Endless hours of team death match is not a game format that Mechwarrior can survive on.

Thats true to a point, but the same ol PVP is just as boring. same tactics, same maps, same mechs...nothing new there either.
Atleast Coop PVE you get to enjoy the game, rather hten having it end in 3 minutes 0-12.

You get sick of the blind matches VS pro stompers groups after a while if you are casual with a few mates who play tonnes of other games. COOP would give something different to grind for other than mechs perhaps? Bigger maps, storyline etc
Bring on steam and a wider community.

1. PGI has extremely limited resources
2. A good deal of the players will not care for the PVE
3. There's no guarantees it will work
My consideration has always been this. I would much rather see the focus and resources stay on PVP. PVE might or might not be successful, playable and fun. Judging by CW, PGI seems to have a hard time creating a new feature from scratch.
So while I'd love to see a feature like this I hope that improvement and development of the PVP aspects would not suffer because of it.
Personally I would love to see SOLARIS arena style, before PVE or COOP.

Simply put the game modes at the moment are stale and the same. Stomp the enemy. The game play is fun.
Most of the development time would likely be taken up with making a reasonable AI.
Once you have a reasonable AI (and they had a basic one for turrets) you can use that in all sorts of ways:-
Tutorials
training ground
Co-op missions
Hoard mode
PvE
campaign
tanks, aircraft in PvP
more diverse PvP game modes.
Filling empty slots in CW with AI for quicker matches.
If you want a good NPE then you need to train them against AI opponents before they go into the meat grinder.
You can (in the short term) reuse existing maps and mechanics and assets for PvE and co-op missions etc etc.
