Did you change your resolution recently? The game writes a new .png file upon saving changes to the mech to create the thumbnail. Changing your resolution after that could cause issues.

I have the same problem! I thought something seriously went wrong downloading the patch! I did ot change any graphic settings. My mechlab appears so dark, bad quality graphics of mechs. Even when dopping, the maps seems to be darker than usual.

We're going to be fixing the blurry portrait issue on August 18th.

What happens right now is that if you're running below 1080p resolution at the time the portrait is generated, the portrait may not appear as crisp as it should. Starting August 18th the portrait capture system will capture all portraits at 1080p, which will go a long way towards making them look cleaner even if you're running below that resolution.

That being said, your portraits do reflect your current Texture setting at the time they're captured, so running at Low Textures will reflect the same low Texture quality in the portrait.
Changing the capture system to auto-cap at 1080p is a negligible change and won't impact performance, but forcing a momentary switch to High Textures for portrait captures would be an unacceptable performance risk for machines that need to run at Low Textures to keep the client stable.

We fixed the Gamma and Brightness sliders on August 4th, so check your in-game Video settings to ensure that your Gamma and Brightness are at default (0.5). You can also change those values to whatever you feel looks best, if default is not sufficient.

For reference, I've uploaded a series of images that show the portraits for a Commando at various settings:

1080p, High Textures
